Sharia showdown
Sharia Showdown | Current Affairs | Dateline | SBS
Just watched this doco on SBS from Ache, a province of our nearest neighbor Indonesia. Indonesia is the largest Islamic state in the world (by population).
Indonesia's population is vast and varied, and most are just like you and me, but Aceh unlike the rest of Indonesia lives under Sharia Law.
What I saw scared the bejezus out of me. Women's rights are absolutely stiffled, a rape is always the woman's fault for which she will be whipped as punishment. The women have been brainwashed to accept fault by default, how ridiculous. There is no legal defense. It is now spreading like ebola into Malaysia as well. What an evil upside down misogynistic system.
I believe in the right of others to follow there own beliefs but you gotta draw the line in the sand somewhere. This was human abuse pure and simple and male power play. (And I thought I was bad). I hope I never see it in Australia. This theocracy is the antithesis of Australian Culture, it is abhorrent to me.
This may sound islamophobic, but the reality is with any strict Theocracy the potential for abuse is huge, this doco showed a clear example of this abuse of power, because the LAW is on the side of the ABUSER.
If allowed to continue it is the prelude to another example of how Pol Pot, Hiltler, Stahlin, Mao, ISIL, Taliban and Jeronimus Cornelius (Batavia) came to power, introduce repressive laws, intimidating and then murdering millions. Where, when the world finally acted, it was usually through the only mechanism remaining available, a mechanism called war.
People of genuine Islamic faith should discuss the motives and respect for human (womens) rights with these crazies and try to modify their abhorrent behavior before it spreads further.
Cheers
