'Shroom Hunting

I have often taken older but edible shrooms and planted them in areas they would like so I know where to look later...you can make seed bombs out of clay, sawdust and manure inoculated with mycelium and toss them where you like to go for walks and they would thrive.

there is a nice variety of pale colored oyster that grows on the old dead poplars, fried in butter with salt and some garlic/onion they are exquisite, like the tenderest calamari you ever had.....same flavor palate as well....yum...nom nom.:)
picked 30 pounds one day in a wet season [june-july] and took them to the BBQ event, there were no leftovers.

Most of the USA mushrooms are safe, but most of the time it comes down to easy things.

1. Orange tops usually bad.
2. Pink Gills Good
3. Black Coming on Mushroom bad when cut.
4. Cook all of them well, some toxic are not after well cooked. Even a large percentage of toxic shrooms can be consumed if boiled, the water leached off, and boiled again and then rinsed.
5. Pancake mushrooms are good, but a gamble. There are many lookalikes and the lookalikes are toxic. It's mostly differentiated on the species of wood they live on, so don't bother with those unless you are very educated on the types of trees in your areas, lol.

Morels are always safe there is nothing at all that looks like them, they're so obvious and you can fearlessly consume them on finding if you'd like.

When in doubt, you can try small pieces of nearly anything cooked and see if there is any bitterness or stomach disturbance. If there is no reaction they're probably safe. There are very few mushrooms where a tiny pea sized quantity would cause any problem. Most of the toxic mushrooms seep when scored with a knife, so if you do see that behavior then don't consume. But, this is when you gotta eat to survive thing... Usually if you have any doubt don't eat it, lol.

There are way more toxic mushrooms on the west coast than anywhere else, if you are picking them there be really careful.

An old saying from mushroom enthusiasts:

There are old mushroom eaters and
There are bold mushroom eaters.
But there are no old, bold mushroom eaters.

Anyone else like to forage for Mushrooms? It is currently rolling into Chanterelle and Morel season here in the PNW of the US. With the return of the rains, decomposition is starting, and the fungi are starting to make their initial appearances.

I haven't been out yet this year, I am currently scoping out places to forage.
That is cool! Hope you find a lot!!
