Greetings brothers and sisters....

i would like to ask our atheist bros and sis what will be the greatest sin in an Atheist. and ask them to list down the things that they consider as sin. i know i know atheists don't believe in the concept of sin and all but playing along will be much appreciated :D

If you know we don't believe in sin then don't say sin.

The least moral thing a person can do is to torture another person to death, in my opinion.

sorry i just wanna put some "ummph" in the title. my idea of a sin is doing something which is forbidden. since atheist holds to morals and ethics, then surely there is a should and shouldn't do. just wanna know from an atheist's POV what that shouldn't dos are

I believed that atheists don't believe in sins.

They (as well as other non-theists) believed in ethics, morals and laws, so the equivalents to sins are "unethical deeds", "immoral behaviours" and "crime".

Aetheists do not have the written list of commandments that they have to abide by, but they make their own choices in regards to what they consider moral and what they do not. There is no sin in terms of a christian ideal of sinning, as I would not repent to God if I done something wrong.

As for me, whatever my government considers to be the most illegal action is what I consider to be the most wrong action I could make. So, it would be something such as murder, or treason - the crime which entails the largest jail sentence.

It varies. Torturing another person for example, is a heinous thing to do, but if the person knows the location of a nuclear device which is going to wipe out a small city, and the only way to save them is to torture this person, which is the greater evil?

But of course, I don't' believe in sin, I believe in immoral actions. And what is and what is not moral can be a complicated road to tread indeed.

Most evil is subjective - we don't like murder, but we justify war. But personally, as a mother, I'd have to say that the worst thing anyone can do is harm children.

What if say, hypothetically the government thought it was a crime to hide Jews because they were trying to kill them, you would have your own morals independent of what the government thought in that case I assume?

Fair point, Sonic247. I do have my own morals that lay outside of the sphere of the law. I probably should have mentioned that.

To harm others without consent or reason is one of the worst (if not the worst) thing I can think of.

Even if you had to torture one person to save all life on the planet, it would still be immoral. The moral thing to do is to try every humane way to get the information that would save lives, but when it comes down to it, torture would never be justified.

I am concurring with the other atheists on this thread. Sin is a transgression against the will of God. Atheist do perceive God to exist which makes transgression against his/her will impossible. Just as the other atheists have stated I would ante up that just as God doesn't exist neither does sin. If you are going to use others words in its place like evil, bad or wrong-doing, I would go with the others opinions that murder, torture, projected poverty (by another) on a culture, rape, and other acts of cruelty and death would top my list.
