Skydiving

In about six hours or so, I will be jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.

As a Christmas present to my daughter, I bought skydiving gift certificates after my ex suggested that I buy concert tickets and take her to a concert (because I'm obedient like that).

I'll share the experience sometime after the jump.

Has anyone here ever been skydiving?

What made you decide to do it?

Tell us about your experience.

Great fun, you'll love it. It's quite surreal sitting on the edge of a plane with your feet hanging over the side. Can be quite cold up there too. Really tranquil when the 'chute opens though and you are floating down.

Make sure you wear thick trousers/shorts under your suit though as you can have quite a lot of pressure on your groin from the harness :grimacing:

Not sure how cold it will be given it's going to be 87F on the ground. :)

Thanks for the suggestion.

If ever there was anything to dissuade me from skydiving it was that description.

Nope, nope... so much nope.

I will try anything at least once, that includes skydiving. I went from abject terror to total piece with the world in about 10 seconds, an experience of a lifetime.

You should love it.

Would i do it again, probably i will take the kids in a few years, if they want.

And now my daughter texts me this morning telling me she busted her chin open last night and asked me if I think it's still okay to jump.

I told her she should be okay unless she plans on landing on her chin.

She decided instead of going to the ER for stitches to throw some super glue and a butterfly bandage on it so we can still jump.

I have only ever done indoor skydiving, which is a blast, minus the fear of falling to one's death via airplane.

This is one of the things on my bucket list to do.

Have fun Salix! :D

This is the primary reason I'm doing this. It's been on my bucket list most of my life, and after today, I can scratch it off.

Thank you!

I sure did... did it as a wedding present to my soon-to-be son in law. He thought, "Maybe he rigged my 'chute" :D There were about 6 of us.

Great experience. It was over so quick that I really didn't have time to absorb it all... maybe I'll do it one more time.

I've always wanted to skydive, and I plan on doing it at least once soon (next year if not this year), while my knees are still able to withstand the landing impact.

Well, for the most part it was AMAZING!! My favorite part...the 59 seconds of free fall, and I free fell right through a cloud!!

I think perhaps they had my harnesses too tight, because I got a bit dizzy, short of breath, and nauseous shortly after the chute deployed.

They're emailing me video, but here are a couple of pics as I approached the ground...

And my beautiful daughter...

So this is officially scratched off my bucket list, but my daughter has such a great experience, she will be going again.
