“Small minds discuss people. Average minds discuss events. Great minds discuss ideas"

Nobody knows who actually said this, it has been misattributed to various people....

But is it true????

It's a pithy saying, but not true. Most people, even the dumbest ******** I've ever met have discussed all three.

I think there might be a shred of truth in some scenarios, but as a general, broad statement, I don't see it as being universally true, or even that useful.

Few ideas of significance are 100%, black and white, always true.

That said, I think there is a useful and often true idea in the OP. It is said that there are 4 categories of knowing things:

data, information, knowledge, wisdom.

So unless you're having a technical psychological discussion, people and events tend to provide data and information. Ideas on the other hand often try to zoom out and see patterns in data and information and that leads to knowledge and wisdom.
