Small, nonsense rant

Hi all.

Basically I was going home with by bike when I noticed something. A guy stood in the middle of the walk-and-bike-road and stomped on something. Then he and a few others walked away, I got the impression it was about a wager or something. When I came closer I saw what he had stomped on... a glass bottle, now crushed. Wtf? Why would anyone do that? Us bike-users might get flat tires because of it. Thinking of maybe going there and cleaning it up myself if its still there later, just so I get a little ease of mind, but I still feel rather annoyed. What is it with some people and ruining it for others?

Take care,
Kerr.

These 'little things' can **** me off too. For example I was walking in a very nicely renovated neighborhood in an area between Tel Aviv and Jaffa, with lovely well taken care of early 20th century buildings. It annoys me to no end that some 'artists' choose to spray graffiti on these buildings of all places. It's a total disregard to the investments being made to restore our architecture, history and a complete disregard to the general public who are are forced to see the corruption of their city.

When people disregard the cleanliness or safety of public space or the environment I really want to go 1984 on them and put them in camps controlled by the extremely pedantic and anal retentive until they learn some manners and respect.

Use garbage cans, don't vandalize public property, don't spray graffiti on historical or well taken care of architectural space, and don't take two parking spaces!

To summarize: Don't be an *******!

That's nothing. A friend of mine caught three jerks in a truck dumping a whole couch off a cliff into the inaccessible wilderness below. The outrageous part is that she told them before they did it that she organizes a weekly clean-up of the area they were dumping. She asked them not to go through with it, since she's the one who would be trying to haul it out later. They did it anyway!

Dumping is a huge problem here. It's sad, since the whole area is a big forest full of unused logging roads. There are lots of places to hide your trash if you're an *******.

Lol, yeah, I wish more people could just be a little more considerate.

I seriously have a hard time imagining what is going through peoples heads when they do something like that.

She should've gotten their licence plate number down.

This petty misbehavior is exactly what the Broken Windows theory attends to address. Some people complain about that approach, but usually they are the very same ones that struggle to respect basic law and order. They don't need to complain; they need to get help.

I once offered to punch a guy out for throwing fast food wrappers out of his car in front of my house. He got out and picked them up when I started kicking his passenger door. I like confrontation with schmucks.

His dad lived on my street, or he probably would have just driven away. But since I knew who he was, I think he figured I'd show up at his house. He was right.

I don't understand littering. Seriously. You can't wait the 10 minutes till you get home to throw away that bag of Mickey D's? Why do people think that's okay? I can't even comprehend the mentality.

Totally! I once went for a hike in the middle of nowhere in Alberta. One of the guys on the trip tried to just leave his garbage there after we ate. I shamed him into packing it out and enjoyed myself doing it. His rather petulant attitude was "Who cares? We're in the middle of nowhere!" He was not a very bright bulb.

The other day at work, I was sweeping up the warehouse and noticed a good 20 meter square area littered with sunflower seed shells. Trashcan sitting right in the middle of it. An extreme example of something I deal with every single day. Banana peals, orange peals, empty drink bottles, candy wrappers. Why? There are upwards of 25 trashcans to put it in. None more than 10 paces away no matter where you happen to be in the warehouse. Ridiculous. Oh no, that isn't it... they just know some jerk like me is getting paid to clean it up anyway. Dirty rotten razza frazza bricka bracka Barbara Streisand...
