Snow in Saudi Arabia! (29 Nov 2016)

Actually, this has happened three times in the last three years. There are mountainous regions that get snow, but this can happen in the desert as well. In this case it is in the desert sands, and many Saudis are having fun in the snow and building snowmen. I haven't seen any snowwomen photos, too much covering or a burqa on the snowwomen would probably melt it. There were even snowcamels, however during last years snow Saudi Religious Cleric Mohammed Saleh Al Minjed issued a fatwa that decreed that building snowmen or any living snow-creature out of snow was an insult to the Islamic religion.

Others are even skiing while being pulled by a car and holding a rope, some just sliding on shoes, throwing snow balls. Normally it is deers associated with yellow snow, but in this case it might be rabbits or a camel - but the same rule applies, don't eat yellow snow.

How do you think Ol' Minjed would feel about building creatures out of sand. Surely no could object to a Sandman. Right?

I disagree with Saudi's view about snowman and paintings.

Worshiping idols and paintings(or making snowman) are two huge different things.
Idols are worshipped

Snowman is not worshipped.
Paintings are not worshipped.

Anyways i respect their view:)

I had to wear a jacket in Taif. It was awesome watching baboons steal candy bars from people.

Claiming that snow camels are an insult to Islam is everything wrong with the current state of affairs in that culture, unfortunately.

Why would you believe some human telling you that snow sculptures are wrong and forbidden?
Tom

Not some human, but the Prophet. It is possible that he didn't say it, but so far the records say he did.

I'd believe him because I respect him and trust him.

The reason behind it, as per the records, is that in the past people got so comfortable with it so little by little some of those people ended up worshiping some statues they made, and that's how these days we have religions with such practices. I say this holding nothing against those religions or its people, of course.

The case could be different with snowmen as they melt, but at the moment I wouldn't risk it and just avoid it. Hot snow ladies would melt faster, I know.

I could be wrong in all this, of course.

Remember, this is not a religious debate or discussion section. I'd like to stop here. You're welcome to quote me in a new debating thread if you wish, but it does not necessarily mean that I'd participate in it, specially if it is a debate.

I lived for sometime in a part that sees 4C in the winter. And Taif is like an hour away from where I live.

I agree with you in the second part, by the way.

Sounds like the Prophet may have been on the losing side of a few snowball fights...just sayin'.

Actually, my post was to share the happiness of snow when you do not get a lot of it.

When I was a kid, one morning I got up and there was snow in San Francisco, on our front lawn. I was amazed and everyone really enjoyed it.

As far as snowmen, I do not think people do that much anymore even here in the US. Personally, if it snowed here in the SF Bayarea I would make a Trump snowman, but knowing the Alt-Left around here I think a Trump snowman is illegal, even a hate crime -- I know a Trump snowman is illegal on the UC Berkeley campus because even an ice figure of Trump causes everyone to run to a "safezone" or skip midterms because "they cannot handle it".

Do you think in strong alt-right areas a Sanders snowman would be a hate crime?

To me, snow means it's plow time.

Woo hoo!
2 points!

One of my fondest childhood memories was watching my 5-year old brother being buried by the snowplow as we walked home from school. This was in spite of my multiple warnings to him of the approaching behemoth. At the time we were living nine blocks from Lake Erie; do the math.
