It was awkward. They never bothered with me before. Missionaries usually steer clear of me but there's usually a couple of Mormons riding the bus and walking around my area.

They noticed my Thor's Hammer pendant and asked what it was. I told them and one only thought of the damn comic book character, which made me a bit offended and is not the way to start a religious discussion with me. The other knew a bit more. Then they asked if I believe in "Norse mythology". I said yes and they tried to ask me what It's about, to me. I shut them down by telling them I wasn't interested in discussing religion. Then they tried to make small talk but I wasn't interested in that, either. Was pretty uncomfortable.

They also asked about my friend I was with,hat her name was and if she was interested in speaking with them, but she was smart enough to walk away from them in the first place and get on the phone with her mom. I soon joined her.

Strange. I am no fan of missionaries of any religion, whether it's the bigoted black Hebrew loons, Christians or Muslims. I have no plans or desire to return to any Abrahamic religion. I don't like it when they try to pretend they're interested in you as a person when they're truly not. It's so fake. Mormons are nice enough, but it's still sad, imo.

Depends on what the question is, for both. Best to remain civil. I'm not a fan of proselytism in general.

I agree. They probably just noticed your jewelry and were being friendly. If they started to ask things you did not want to talk about you can easily say you are not interested.

Did you miss the part where I said they were missionaries? It's just a lead-in so they can try to convert you. They do it with everyone.

Sure, it can go both ways, and there are appropriate places for it, but showing up uninvited at people's homes is rude and intrusive. Besides, I don't think St. Frankenstein has been showing up at Mormon's houses trying to convert them to Norse beliefs, so don't even try to flip it around.

I see door-to-door proselytizers in the same light as door-to-door solicitors; don't bother me when I'm spending time with my family, especially after we've sat down for a meal. When I make it clear that I"m not interested, the sales pitch should end and you should move on. If I had any interest in your crap, I would go to the store or your church for it.

Why would what bother me? Most people don't know what it is. It is annoying when people think about comic book characters, however.

They asked me "do you know what suffering is?"

I'm Buddhist. So needless to say(assuming you get it,) i had a lot more to talk about it than they did.

I think it was obvious that wasn't why he was offended. He was offended that the missionary referenced a comic book character. It would be like someone asking a christian what their cross necklace meant, then after they explain, the person just goes "Oh, so it's that Buddy Christ thing from that Dogma movie. Heheh."
