Some Mormon missionaries tried to talk to me.

It was awkward. They never bothered with me before. Missionaries usually steer clear of me but there's usually a couple of Mormons riding the bus and walking around my area.

They noticed my Thor's Hammer pendant and asked what it was. I told them and one only thought of the damn comic book character, which made me a bit offended and is not the way to start a religious discussion with me. The other knew a bit more. Then they asked if I believe in "Norse mythology". I said yes and they tried to ask me what It's about, to me. I shut them down by telling them I wasn't interested in discussing religion. Then they tried to make small talk but I wasn't interested in that, either. Was pretty uncomfortable.

They also asked about my friend I was with, hat her name was and if she was interested in speaking with them, but she was smart enough to walk away from them in the first place and get on the phone with her mom. I soon joined her.

Strange. I am no fan of missionaries of any religion, whether it's the bigoted black Hebrew loons, Christians or Muslims. I have no plans or desire to return to any Abrahamic religion. I don't like it when they try to pretend they're interested in you as a person when they're truly not. It's so fake. Mormons are nice enough, but it's still sad, imo.

I see everyone as a person and I like speaking to decent people. If all they want to do is talk about spiritual things or God and religion then most very welcome in my home.

There are a lot of people that truly care about humanity and really want to help it. I like Mormons and always invite them in when they’re in the area.

I do the same to Jehovah's Witnesses, although they won't come in anymore.

I think I smell or something.

Two Mormon missionaries stopped in my guitar shop a couple weeks ago. One of them turned out to be a guitarist. Ended up having a pretty good jam session.

Don't you have a college in your area with a "snowflake" room where you can hide from these vicious Mormons, who apparently rattle your "belief" system? Maybe someone can contact their congressman, and have these vagrants exterminated, or at least removed from the streets and buses. The nerve of those ruffians, to think they have the right to free speech, especially under the guise of polite conversation. I have some tar, does anyone have some feathers?

It is a normal human activity to reach out to others. One could tell them one's own view point of view. I don't think there is any need to be upset, please.

Proselytising is not a "normal human activity". It's not like their niceness or interest in you is sincere. They're just salesmen.

My Catholic grandma used to take pleasure in opening the door to prothseletyzers, listing to their first question and then with the same hand still holding the door and waiting --slamming it in their face.

...We used to like that. :)

Not normal at all. Rude. The action says. "I am smarter than you. I have something you need, and I will try to sell it to you." What gives any human the right to have this superiority feeling to all other humans? If it was an extra pair of shoes in cold weather giving it to a homeless person, I'd understand. But religious viewpoints aren't quite that useful.

Doesn't one think that it was disrespectful?

There's nothing polite about proselytizing.

And I'm not sure how things are where you are, but here, a salesperson would need a permit to set up shop on the sidewalk.

Well, they were disrespectful to us in the past. We lived next to a park, and the Baptists mistook my sister as one of their congregation on one of their field trips... Almost kidnapped her after whipping her with a switch, before she ran home.

...Then, of course, every time we told them we were Catholic they wanted to argue.

Listen, I offered to provide the tar. Maybe you have some feathers. I am all for people showing their inane prejudices. How do you like how Trump is bringing out the true message of the missionaries of Lenin? No tar and feathers needed.
