Purpose of this thread and some observations

This thread is likely to be updated in the future. As of right now, it reflects the situation in the last few days of 2015 and is meant to offer some assistance with time zones for the thread "Something About Hinduism" in the Hinduism DIR

At that time of the year, most Northern Hemisphere places will not be following Daylight Savings Time, while many Southern Hemisphere places will. These time zones will change in other times of the year.

Useful Resources

When posting your own time to make arrangements with forum users from other time zones, it may be worth consulting some these resources and indicating your own times in relation to GMT or UTC time (they are two names to the same time).

http://www.timeanddate.com/time/zones/gmt

http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/ has a nice menu to see the time and date in many cities and countries.

http://24timezones.com/current_time_zone.php is really informative and easy to use.

http://time.is is direct to the point and adjusts to the local idiom automatically. One may enter a few city names and have their times compared side-by-side.

Some data points (DST means Daylight Savings Time):

GMT -8 is the current Pacific Standard Time (PST) in the USA. It is also the time in most of British Columbia (Canada). It would be GMT -7 in their DST period, between March and November.

GMT -7 is Mountain Standard Time (MST) in the USA. It is also the time in Alberta (Canada). DST would make that GMT -6.

GMT -6 is Central Standard Time (CST) in the USA. It is also the time in the Western part of Ontario (Canada). DST would make that GMT -5.

GMT -5 is Eastern Standard Time (EST) in the USA. Is also the time in most, but not all, of Québec and Ontario (Canada). DST would make that GMT -4.

GMT -3.5 is Newfoundland (Canada)'s time. DST makes that GMT -2.5.

GMT +0 (or just GMT, also UTC) is also the official time of London (United Kingdom).

GMT +1 is the time zone of Algeria and France.

GMT -2.0 is the current Brazilian time (because we are in Daylight Savings Time. Otherwise we would be at GMT -3.0)

GMT +5.5 is India Standard Time

Example using India Standard Time

Therefore, during December, when there is DST in the Southern Hemisphere only, the time of noon (midday, 12h00 in a 00h00-23h59 scale) in India Standard Time is also

22h30 of the previous calendar day in Pacific Standard Time

23h30 of the previous calendar day in Mountain Standard Time

00h30 Central Standard Time

01h30 Eastern Standard Time

03h00 in Newfoundland (Canada)

04h30 in most of Brazil

06h30 GMT (and therefore that is also the time in London (United Kingdom)

07h30 in Algeria and France

08h30 in Israel and in Egypt

09h30 in Moscow (Russia) and in Saudi Arabia

11h30 in Pakistan

12h00 (Noon or Midday) in India Standard Time, used in India and Sri Lanka

12h30 in Bangladesh

15h30 in Tokyo (Japan)

17h30 in Sydney (Australia)

19h30 in New Zealand

I wish there was an interactive map where you could enter current time and one place to get the corresponding time all over the world in Mercator's projection. It will not be difficult for a computer literate to do this. :)

Thanks. Although Revolting is greatly underestimating my other threads, if I dare say so. Many are far more dull and boring than this one.

Don't try this at home, kids. I'm a pro.

A couple of the listed resources above are not too far off from that:
That is right, Luis. In the case of first, the word 'calculation' frightened me. I did not know what all I would have to calculate (Mathematics not being my strong point). :)
