In the 1970's, my father worked at the White Sands Test Facility in New Mexico. My understanding is that the rocket cones were made from some sort of ceramic material, so they would go in after test firing to check them for cracks.

The first photo shows one of the cones in the background. The second photo shows the suits they wore to avoid exposure to fumes or whatever. My father is on the left, and his buddy (my "godfather") is on the right.

I'll try to add more stuff to this thread as I find time to dig things up and scan them.

Haven't gotten around to scanning all of these, my brother did a school project on the backs. (Probably scrap paper left by a photocopy machine.)
