Speaking in tongues

If a the Spirit moves a man to speak in tongues in a meeting of the church He will also move one to interpret as He wills and the others will judge if it is from God.
The teaching is so clear.

Paul wrote that the gift of tongues [instant translation] Acts 2vs6,11] was temporary and tongues would cease according to 1st Cor 13v8.
What would not end would be the identifying mark of John 13vs34,35.

1st Cor 13v29 the 'prophets that speak' are the writings of the Hebrew OT prophets. The two or three mentioned in verse 29 is referring to the precedent Jesus set at Matthew 18v16 that out of the mouth of two or three witnesses a thing is established. So out of the Hebrew writings of the prophets of old speaking in agreement would establish what those judging would hear.

2nd Cor 13v1 also says at the mouth of two or three witnesses every matter would be established. The Hebrew prophets were witnesses so that we can verify the internal harmony between them by looking at what they wrote by topic or by subject.

It is the 'All Scripture that is inspired by God' [2Tim 3v17] that is the 'perfect' of 1st Cor 13v10. Once Scriptures were complete that which is 'in part' [tongues] is done away.

Cor. 13v8 say: 'tongues will cease' ?

Yes when Christ comes back for the Church and we " know all things"

Is knowledge done away with also? putting 2tim to 1cor 13 makes no sense , but it is a favorite tradition to teach it this way for those who don't speak in tongues

1 Cor 13: 8 Whether there be tongues, they shall cease! They did when the Bible was completed, then God warns Rev 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book (Bible) If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book, If any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. God only reveals himself thru his word.

To you it may be "wow", but Millions of people do it. The largest church in America ( Lakewood) and most of the non-denominational preachers ( td jakes,Osteen, Copeland, Joyce Myers, etc). Not just in America , but world wide.

Not to mention all of the largest christian TV networks. ( TBN , Daystar, ETC.)

Even Large christian university's ( Oral Roberts )

Its not just back woods churches with 20 people in them.....

It still may not make it " right " , but they have scriptural back up and that's how they interpret it:shrug:
Well, if everyone is doing it, it MUST be valid. :p

If you read the "Scriptures" I posted you will see that it does.

If you Google " azusa street revival" You will see William J. Seymour started this again in 1906. its been Over 100 years plus since and more people speak in tongues than ever before. This virus is catchy. :p

Speaking in "tongues" was merely the supposed apostles "miraculously" being able to speak different languages to spread the gospel. It has nothing to do with this modern gibberish.:D

Nope.

If that was the case Why did Paul say " when a man speaks in tongues , he speaks not unto men, but unto GOD"? NO MAN UNDERSTANDS HIM."

Pauls words, not mine.

NO MAN:shout

sure, I already quoted this scripture earlier in the thread.

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

So do you miraculously heal people, drink poison with impunity and handle dangerous snakes all day yourself?

Nope.

This is why the bible is false. These "signs" are supposed to follow them that believe in Jesus. People do the tongues as one of them.

I will go through the passage anyway as a "holy ghost" person would answer.

1. it did not say Miraculously heal. it said they would " recover". Tongue talkers lay hands on the sick in churches every week.
2. drinking poison was a sign of "divine protection" if you were out preaching the gospel. God will "protect" his believers. If you are out doing gods work and you eat or drink a deadly thing, it will not harm you.
3. Take up serpents refers to casting out devils and defeating the power of darkness.
4 Speak in new tongues, well....... that's what we have been discussing.

All of these answers are a stretch, but its the best Christians got. unless you insert the notion that it only happened in bible times. That is also a cop out, but its the only excuse they can come up with.

At least the Tongues churches are " trying " to follow the word as close as possible.

When the cancer patient dies, the snake bites you, the poison kills you, and the tongues sound like gibberish, its kind of a hard sell.

Please keep in mind 'originally' Mark chapter 16 ends at: verse 8.
After verse 8 the style of writing changes, and there aren't corresponding passages or verses as there is with the verses before verse 9.

Please also note at verse 18 that Jesus was not resurrected to heaven and did not go to heaven at that moment, but Jesus gathered later with them that evening in the locked room.

After verse 8 those words are missing from the Sinaitic and Vatican 1209.
Eusebius and Jerome agree Mark 16 closes with verse 8.

Those ^above^ words that appear in the KJ version are Not in the original Greek. After Mark 16v8 those spurious verses were a later false addition.

I swear on it!

St. Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; St. Mark 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Why not view this "they" as a class of people rather than each individual, after all these signs are documented as following Christians as a group. And also when you think about it, when one Christian does something like this it relates to the whole body as we are all members of one another. For example, you do not credit your hand with the gift of writing but your whole person.

So as long as it works for a few people or did at one time, everyone's covered. got it
