speaking in tongues?

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
What do people think about speaking in tongues?

I have just been discussing this with an evangelical friend of mine, in a cafe

Apparently he sometimes speaks in tongues although he has never mentioned this to me before I think it is something he keeps to himself which I think is understandable

Suddenly, I felt the urge to burst out in tongues and I opened my mouth and spoke in tongues, in the cafe!

Bizarre and unfamiliar words poured out of my mouth

I did this in hushed tones though, didn't want to make a scene

We had a brief conversation in tongues, but none of us had any idea what we were saying but it somehow felt right and natural

Apparently the current Archbishop of Canterbury speaks in tongues, I heard that somewhere....

So.... what do people think about speaking in tongues?
It's one of the stupidest things in religion today.

It's silly. To speak in tongues is the ability to be understood by everyone as if you were speaking in their native languages. What we see among Pentecostals and certain Evangelical types is but mere babbling. Nothing miraculous about it.

I think it is possible. Originally it meant that disciples of Jesus could speak to foreign nations so that they could understand also the message.

...Cretans and Arabians: we hear them speaking in our languages the mighty works of God!”
Acts 2:10-11

It is very common in about every denomination and independent church.

Although it isn't a requirement for a Christian, there are many benefits to it such as:
1 Cor 14:2 For the one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people, but to God;

4 The one who speaks in a tongue edifies himself

It is wonderful to be so filled that rivers of living waters flow from your spirit in other tongues. Guidance, dunamis(Greek) power is increased, wisdom and so much more.

Don't let anyone convince you to stop. :)

I wouldn't subscribe to that position.

But he sent me to you! :D maybe it is a listening issue?
So you're one of those spirits, or at least
a conduit. I do hear your messages.
In fact, your posts are clearer than most
here. But of course, I don't believe every
claim made on RF or the internet.
Do you agree with everything that I say?

No problem with anything you have said.
