Um... any of these?
One life
Many lives
No meaning
To find God/ess/[e]s
To liberate oneself from the cycle of rebirth
Union with God
Produce children and pass on their DNA to the next generation
To learn.
I dunno.
(I wrote them myself.. did I miss any?)
The "design" comes from looking back up the path. Looking back on our path we see how it wound: the things that came together to make other things possible; the chance meetings with teachers, of all sorts; the decisions that took us in one direction instead of another. All of these things compose the design; and the design is composed in retrospect. Is life a series of 'designed' spiritual lessons to teach the soul?
If not, what's the alternative?

Observation is the means of determining design. The evidence is there [for the individual] to see.How would we know if life was a series of designed spiritual lessons? What evidence would we have for it? I think humans have a tendency to see meaning in things. So they see "spiritual lessons" in various experiences they have. But are those experiences really designed lessons?
I dunno about that. That there are lessons that can be learnt doesn't imply there has to be a lesson plan.Observation is the means of determining design. The evidence is there [for the individual] to see.
