There is a charity through which you can sponsor a little kid in Africa to help put them through school and cloth them etc

My sister and her husband sponsor a little girl

Am thinking of sponsoring one myself

Does anyone here sponsor a little kid in a poor country?

We used to. We had a boy from Thailand and one from India.

I think it's a great thing to sponsor somebody who could use a richer friend, but I am very leery about the sponsorships in terms of the organization running it , so I would recommend checking out reputations of various charities and the like to make sure they are on the level. Same as @Jayhawker Soule 's good advice.

My dad started a swear jar for my youngest sister(using her allowance money) when she was young. Eventually, the money was coming in so solidly he used it to sponsor three children in Africa.

She was about 8 or 9 at the time... really, it backfired for him. She swore more, on purpose. She was proud that "when I ****ing swear, a kid in Africa eats."

He gave up with the swear jar, but did continue to sponsor the kids for quite some time.
