Spring has... sprung?

I shut the furnace off a week or so ago. The kids have been happily getting into their shorts and sandals, and the couple cats that go outdoors have beenlounging on the deck in the warm spring sun.

This morning, I can't help but notice there are extra cats in the bed. Sure, there's always a few in this house, but we even had some antisocial ones snoozing. When I roll off the mat and out of my blankets, I notice... its damned cold. The thermostat innocently shows me its at 62 degrees. Well, whatever. I flip the heat back on, and head to the glass door to see what birds are in the yard today, and along with my feathered friends, I see its snowing.

Well, its April.

What is April like for you? Are you lucky enough to get vegetables from the market yet, or, like me, must you wait a few more weeks? Have you still got snow, or is that done? Is it something that progresses pretty evenly, or is it back and forth with the weather?

It's been warming up here, but not too hot. Although it did get into the upper 90s last week. The week before that, there were freeze warnings. It's rather pleasant today. We never really get much of a "spring," though. Our winters are relatively mild, but it does get below freezing on occasion. Then there's a few weeks in April when it's kind of pleasant just before it really starts to heat up - and will continue to be hot until November. That's when "fall" begins - and we don't really get much of that either.

When I was a kid, we got falls and springs. Not usually anymore. It goes cold to hot/hot to cold in a few days. It might yoyo a few times, but the pleasant not too hot, not too cold seasons seem mostly gone.

We got both last year, though. I wasn't thinking we'd get lucky two years in a row.

Had very mind week with temps in the 70s here. High of 78 today; high of 46 tomorrow.

If you like seasons, definitely move to Cleveland, where you can experience all 4 in less than 24 hours.

Definitely warmer only by a degree or two in the mornings, perhaps one day per week it still getting down to 0c. It's warming up quickly though, by mid morning it's comfortable and afternoon it's reaching high teens to low 20s c.

The cats are spending sunny afternoons on the veranda catching some rays. But on rainy days they are going stir crazy.

We are still getting rain every few days but at least we have not had any flooding (yet) which is usual this time of year.

Markets are an all year round thing here. In winter pretty basic stuff, wine sellers, roast chicken stalls, imported veg. But, come April they jump into summer mode. Best part is fresh local fruit & veg becomes available over a month or two. We've had strawberries (growth under glass) for a month, i scored new potatoes and white asparagus this morning.

Asparagus sounds delicious!

My cats can't decide whether they want in or out... its been nice, so they think they want out, and then run out, get cold and wet, and want back in within a few minutes...

Our furnace is never off because the water heater is integrated with it.
We could get snow clear into May, but it's been a warm week...in the
80s til today, which has been more reasonable.
The daffodils & magnolias have been blooming profusely.
Violets, dutchman's britches, squill, & myrtle have bloomed too.

We usually get a smattering of snow in April, but I can't recall ever getting it in May.

There's all kinds of little flowers popping up here and there... Our bulbs have poked through the ground, but nothing is flowering.

The May snow I specifically remember was just flurries.
Still....shouldn't be that cold in May.

We had that a couple of weeks ago, the cats just didn't know what to do
