Q was apparently omnipotent, but was not omniscient. Nor omnipresent. And I suspect was not entirely omnipotent, either. As there were other Q members to whom he had to answer.

In all Star Trek seriousness though, while Q seems to be omnipotent, it is clear that none of the Q-continuum are omniscient. There have been several presentations of young Qs, as well as Qs learning new information that they did not know before.
