Starbucks and Xmas idiocy

"I have one of the most successful Starbucks, in Trump Tower. Maybe we should boycott Starbucks? I don't know. Seriously, I don't care. That's the end of that lease, but who cares?" Trump told a crowd in Springfield, Illinois, on Monday. "If I become president, we're all going to be saying Merry Christmas again, that I can tell you. That I can tell you."

Um, is that some sort of threat? Am I going to be required to say Merry Christmas?
If anyone institutes mandatory Xmas greetings, you & I can be conscientious objectors.
Though it's possible he was referring to people who want to say "Merry Xmas", some of whom feel oppressed by us secular humanists.

Ah, well at least I won't be lonely when we are whipped with sleigh bells.

I was under the impression that Starbucks didn't want to say Merry Xmas, not that that Starbucks was actively neutralizing Christmas threats.

I guess some places better be careful with that whole "war on Christmas" thing. See what happens when they don't say "Merry Christmas" at banks now?

Apparently some Christians have complained because Starbucks won't print Xmas cups this year. I'm guessing that wouldn't bother anyone with half a brain, except that Donald Trump decided to comment on the subject and invite people to boycott Starbucks so this nonsense escalated.

Seriously, who cares about what's printed on the coffee cups???
Maybe they should have an old fashioned bit of a pray and you know.....God will do something about it....

I find Trump's commentary to be reasonable.....

His lack of caring is exemplary.

Trump said:

That part is reasonable and I agree.

Trump said:

That part is a little bit stupid, but I could let something like that pass

But this

Trump said:
If I become president, we're all going to be saying Merry Christmas again, that I can tell you. That I can tell you."
That is incredibly stupid and very scary! What does he plan to do?

Did he really say that?!!

Everybody needs something to complain about. If you don't have real problems, you complain about a cup you're going to throw in the garbage.

It would only be blasphemous if SB discontinues their Xmas blend coffee. Or is it winter blend? Whatever it is, it's yum... :coffee:

I don't know. I haven't been to one in ages. It used to be there was only one of them in town. We have a ton of amazing locally-owned coffee shops. Now there are more Star$#@%s. I get worried about the local places going under, especially the one shop that carries excellent looseleaf tea that passes muster for even the most snobbish tea lover.

Star$#@%s took over Teavana too. I sometimes still go there, but they've become a lot more... I don't know... gimmicky since the takeover. Less of a proper tea snob place and more of a "I'm trying to be hip and cool with fancy blend names" place.

Yay, you're officially more awesome than you were already! :D
Um, I think most Starbucks are franchises and are locally owned.

I don't care for their heavy, acidic roasts. Reminds me of the sour, big brand coffees that were sold when I was growing up (and are still sold in some cases).
I like stronger coffee but not Starbucks because of the bitterness. Generally speaking, I tend to gravitate more towards the Colombian, and Costco ("Kirkland") has an excellent one, imo. However, my all-time favorite was Red Rose coffee that I used to buy in Canada, but they don't make it any more. It was a stronger roast but had none of the bitterness that often accompanies most dark roasts.

BTW, "Newman's Own" makes an excellent Keurig dark roast that also isn't bitter, plus some of the proceeds with that brand to charity.

It is my vengeful pleasure to point out that Starbucks tends to have a burnt taste unless you buy it at Barnes and Noble. I'm sure that putting Santa on the cup cannot make up for that though he's so jolly.

Also Starbucks tends to have loud music playing and can have a lot of echo, too. On the one hand I can't blame them, because I think if they didn't play loud, fast, annoying echoing music they'd turn into a hotel. People would just live there and wash up in the restroom. I understand that can't be allowed. The thing is people like me who are addicted to coffee have little choice but to go in and endure the noise (in addition to their range of burnt coffee flavors), so its a completely unethical practice even though I understand why they do it. Its really catch-22.

Hey Metis...have you tried Peets brand? I don't know if they are everywhere, but if you have a chance give them a try. I particularly like their Costa Rican product...very rich and strong but not the least bit bitter. Good stuff.

Yes I did try it only a few weeks ago. It's OK to me, which isn't exactly a strong endorsement. However, I only had one of their brand, so I don't know how others might compare. Any recommendations?

The Costa Rica is my go-to, but they have a lot of options. The one I go to has a huge board with all their beans listed by charactaristic...nutty, flowery, etc. If you typically like Columbian, try their version. Maybe it's just me but I like it a lot better than Starbucks.
