Stepping back into "reality"

I don't want to make this post too terribly long, but I just wanted to say, is something I've noticed is that sometimes, competitive workplaces are like a "controlled environment" or "echo chamber" of sorts, where for example, certain values or attributes or modes of thinking are promoted, that don't fly real-world outside of that work environment and work culture. And seem to only really work well within the company.

So, I see it as, sometimes when one works or volunteers a lot, there is some "adapting" back to normal life outside of work or volunteering. Just in my opinion.

Yeah.

One example is a boss trying to promote a certain atmosphere, and promoting people based on certain behavior or company visions as a result. But then outside of that work environment, the things that get you promoted there, don't get you much use in the real world.

As an example, I knew a job where the boss expected that to a certain extent, every employee, including non-managers, should "act like they own the place". And they factored this attitude into whether that person gets promoted, too.

Meanwhile, in the real world, sometimes it's better to not "act like you own the place". Such as if you were a customer in a grocery store or retail store.

Outside of the workplace, that attitude works either really well, or not at all, and nowhere in between...
