Stereotype of porn watchers

I noticed that it seems to be expected that men watch porn, and this seems to be fairly socially acceptable. However it seems that the attitude changes when it comes to the topic of women watching porn.

Would any women own up to watching it and do people think it is more socially acceptable for men to watch it than women? Regardless of orientation?

I watch it and enjoy it. In particular, I prefer amateur porn over mainstream. But, I find myself seeing a lot of how society views sex or what they wish sex would look like.

There are some very good porn out there. But like good art (and I do categorize porn as a subset of film art), very good pornography is few and far between.

Hubbie and I came across some porn not too long ago where both of us ran away from the laptop gagging and laughing. We both also take issue with violent porn, with choking fetishes, and when there are too many gender caricatures. But if there's any consistency, we both prefer porn where it looks to where a woman is in control. :D

I think actually there is more of a stigma against watching porn for heterosexual men. True, there's a lot of mainstream porn that is either bad or focuses only on the male gaze and is blatantly phallocentric. But the stigma is that these straight men are either cheating on their wives/girlfriends, or they're sick, or they're addicted to sex if they watch porn.

Right now, I think the novelty is still there concerning women watching porn. It's still a very new idea (though it's been occurring for a long time in secret) that has been made more public. Give it time, and however societal attitudes are concerning sex will reflect on how the women are perceived. It's possible over time women like me will be viewed as sluts or misogynists.

If you're a woman and you hate males or you're a man and you hate females, I would hope you would be self aware enough never to work around children because the psychological damage you could cause to a child is as bad as what any pedophile could do to a child.

I don't think misogyny or misandry by themselves are comparable to child rape.

I am well aware that there are other forms oppression in this world, but my comments are about gender privilege and sexism.

Not exactly what i wanted to point out.
Here it is: Just because one problem is smaller than another, it doesn't make it any less of a problem.

I was talking about a system of sexism that targets women, not peoples individual prejudices and hangs up that is not supported by a system or culture. I realize that has been very difficult for people to accept.

Hasn't sexism as a whole been supported by our systems/culture?

I think the crux of teh discussion here is that, if we are to take your posts as they are, you are equating the sexist patriarchal system with men in general. That is an unrealistic generalisation and weakens the legitimacy of your argument.

Sure, there are lots of sexist men in the system and the system is unfair towards anybody who isn't a white male but, that doesn't make the male sex more inherently sexist, in general, than the female sex.

In fact, your reasoning could be used to say that white people are more racist in general. That wouldn't be a stretch to apply the same argument to race instead.

Sure there are lots of racist white people in the system and the system is unfair towards anybody who isn't white but, that doesn't make the white race more inherently sexist, in general, than other races.

So, there ya go.

I never said anything about men being inherently sexist so...
