Dave Chappelle's new Netflix special is the greatest stand up routine ever. Hands down better than any Richard Prior or Chris Rock stand up special.

Here take note of the audience score.

This is clear evidence of the rejection of identity politics of the far lleft. Almost 12,000 people rated his special positively because people are sick of being falsely accused of racism, sexism, etc by the left.

When you have comedians like Ricky Gervais, Bill Maher, Dave Chappelle, Joe Rogan all reflecting on the hypocrisy and insanity of the left it's time people started listening!

Title is called sticks and stones and yet you’re whining about what the left does. Not sure about Rogan or Chappelle, but Maher is left leaning

All washed up has-beens who figured out that edgy 'non-conformist' humor (aka the most conforming kind) is the way for them to make easy money and try to be relevant again. *sets watch* How long until the 'attack helicopter gender' bit gets recirculated again?

You are correct. The far left is a bunch of washed up has beens.

It's a clear rejection of snowflake politics.
It could just as easily be an indication that he's no where even close to being as funny as he used to. He hit some homeruns in the past, but he's definitely slipped and not what he used to be. I haven't seen this new one, but last ones that were on Netflix left me longing for the days when he'd have me rolling on the floor and on the verge of passing out from laughing so hard.

The audience disagrees with you.

Snowflake Trump would object - he's the biggest snowflake of them all given his incredibly thin skin and his meltdowns which are never ending.

Uh huh says the political side that thinks violence is a legitimate response to a parade.

What audience? RF? These unknown faceless people of the Tomatometer or audience score? Or the undecided, non-consensus critic?
I also tend to disagree with the audience in many cases. I don't care. In the case of Chappelle, he doesn't do stuff like Dateline: Charles Sisgby anymore. Half Baked was great. But his recent stuff I thought was ok at best. Not terrible. I watched them all, and all of them. But they seem to not have left any impressions in my brain like feeding a diabetic horse their muchies or a white family with a "certain last name." I remember watching them, but I don't really remember anything from them, other than mentioning he does "lock up" people's phones and clearing up the air he didn't support actually support Trump.
Oh well to anyone who disagrees. If they make any bigger deal of a deal than that they've invested more energy and care than I have.

I quite enjoy dark even gallows humour.
I think I’ve mostly outgrown “edgy” humour though. And I think that’s also happening to the culture as a whole.

Sure certain comedians can use edgy or even insulting humour fairly well. But this actually takes a certain amount of technique. Chris Lilley made a career out of it. Because he understood that as long as there’s a positive emotional core, the audience usually responds well to it. But he sticks to his formula a bit too well and didn’t evolve. He still found a bit of the audience years later, because there is a certain earnest charm he puts into his performances. People responded well to say Billy Maddison back in the 90s because there was a juvenile charm to the comedy. Sure it was often mean spirited but the mean character was punished and even redeemed. That’s why it worked at the time. There was a legitimate reason to laugh at and then with the character.
South Park works because they take a centrist stance and make everyone into ********. So there’s never a feeling that you’re “punching down.”
Always Sunny in Philadelphia works because you’re supposed to laugh at the character’s comeuppance since they’re terrible human beings. Same with Seinfeld, now that I think of it (only much tamer.)

And therein lies I think the seemingly more “sensitive” response nowadays.
The best comedians have always said that you can joke about anything, as long as you frame it correctly. And I agree. Thing is people today are more aware of homophobia and casual racism. So they’re less prone to laughing at a “punch down” joke than they might have been 10 years ago. That doesn’t mean they can’t find racist or even homophobic jokes funny anymore, it just has to be punching up instead.

I think society has changed and so has the standards for dark humour. I think dark humour can and even does still work, but it needs to be reframed to better reflect modern culture.

You don't think that's in error at the slightest? What about the real mob? They are often rather Conservative and traditional, and definitely Right Winged. Should I fear you'll toss me over a bridge with cement shoes?

Had you watched Chapelles special you'd know he does the same. He makes fun of himself and everyone else. How can a POC punch down to anyone? That defies the logic of critical race theory.

Ricky Gervais was accused of being trans phobic for acknowledging Caitlyn Jenner transitioning from male-to-female, Bruce to Caitlyn, and he showed acceptance of her as a woman that he roasted her by holding her up to female stereotypes. Funny joke, but definitely not transphobic. But he demonstrates you can joke about anything, because an incident of accidental vehicular manslaughter is why he was able to make the joke in the first place. His joke about fatal peanut allergies was also hilarious.

Groups like Alf, Elf, and Antifa are not organized like the Russian, Italian, or Irish mobs. I'm talking about the real mob. You're talking about neighborhood hooligans.

Not being organized doesn't absolve them of their crimes. Dunno why you folks think this fallacy holds water.
