Humans are natural storytellers. That is not going to go away, nor should it. It is how we process and deal with the world around us, but we want to make sure our stories are leaving open the bridges of compromise.

How are your stories affecting you today?

Another reason to get my eyes checked. I read the thread title and thought it said "Stories - Penis and Progress"

I like storytelling. Obviously everyone is exposed to it at a young age, but what really got my creative juices a-flowing happened to be a couple of Gameboy Advance RPGs, Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age. More so than Final Fantasy, even. Later on, I moved to classic novels.

In the Golden Sun games, the characters were faced with the moral question of what would happen if powerful magic abilities were released on a decaying world. The world was losing its life without magic and with magic sealed, but there was also one who wanted to exploit all the magical abilities for themselves. And the game was chalk full of mythology and references from various religions.

As a Bard who often waxes on about the importance of story (see signature) I'm gonna have to add this to my listen list...

One example of telling stories today. We have had some lovely, wonderful snow today. The first real, proper snow of the year and that's something I celebrate. Contrast this to some of my fellows who whine and moan instead of appreciating the beauty and wonder. The difference between me and them is the stories we tell about the Spirit of Winter.

I start out presuming narratives (stories) have a majority of fiction in them, unless I can verify otherwise.
Especially including any news narrative.
If you closely watch many of the news commentators you can see how they take a little bit of true information and weave a lovely story from it.
