Student's At It Again.

Dark Valkyrie...what's not to love?
Dropping the title "Master"? What the heck are they thinking?

I think that may go a little too far. But people do get offended at the slightest things. I am offended that people consider dark clouds to be a bad thing. Those Racists.:p

I can't comment one way or another about the "Crest" thing. Seems rather inane-ish. But whatever.
But dropping the title of "master" sounds absolutely pathetically whiny. Talk about being devoid of actual problems in one's life.
What's next? Attacking Computing Science for still using professional terminology like "Master" and "Slave?" I suppose that would at least have a better backing of "problematic" language than this debacle.

Does Harvard not have better things to do than to coddle a bunch of oversensitive children? Like providing esteemed and prestigious education perchance?
#firstworldproblems much?

Edit. I realize the irony of my whining about a bunch of clearly whiny spoilt brats. A judgment I am basing on reported actions of these students, which are not all of Harvard's students. But you know the difference? I'm not campaigning for any side. I'm not protesting, I'm not saying that these clearly (dare I say it) privileged kids not try their little campaign to their heart's content.
They are the ones trying to silence literally any word they deem "offensive."
I am merely voicing an opinion that such actions demonstrate making a mountain out of a molehill and being offended for the sake of being offended. This is not some issue that will solve anything. It's literally unimportant fluff. Though one can still find amusement in such antics nonetheless.

Well it seems that the students are at it again and this time it is at Harvard Law School. Seems that a seal includes the crest of a notoriously brutal 18th Century slave owner and the students want it changed. It also seem the school will no longer use the term "master" in academic titles, because of connotations of slavery. So what next you brain-dead idiots, remove any word that you find offensive? Poor little rich kids, your mommy not teach you there is a real world out there.

I'd be willing to bet that you had never even heard of Isaac Royall, let alone care about him one iota before you heard that Harvard was considering changing a symbol that was associated with him.

I'd also bet good money if it wasn't for this story, you wouldn't have noticed if they did change their crest.

to start with I was using the story to vent, said somethings that wasn't necessary. However, since you asked I will answer your questions.
No I have never heard or even care who he was, and no I would have never even bothered about the crest or whatever it is. Maybe when all of this type of activity really gets off the ground we won't have anything left standing or words left because something always is going to offend someone, and we can't have that can we.
What my problem with stories like this is just wondering if they might spend their time more constructively than bringing up something that the majority of the students never even considered. I don't know maybe putting their time to better use to justify paying $64-$70 thousand dollars a year,on average, on an education.

So let me conclude by saying I'm sorry I used any words in the above or here that offends anyone. I know paying out over $65,000 a year for an education offends me.

Connecting internal storage devices in computers use the Master/Slave naming. That's racist!
My business computer is built that way with 2 hard drives.
Will my old school revoke my master's degree?
In hydraulics, there's a "master" cylinder & "slave" cylinder.
And from Felix The Cat (the first televised cartoon character) we have.....

got a little bit of bad news this AM and used this story to vent.

I'm sincerely sorry to hear that, Esmith. I like sparring with you, but not when you're having a bad day. I'm going to quit criticizing your ideas in this thread. Hope today is a better day for you. (I might still go on and criticize someone else's ideas though. :D )

On the word, "niggardly".....
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controversies_about_the_word_"niggardly"
Just sounding racist is enuf to prompt severe sanctions.
Probably my favorite part in that article (because I'm actually geeky enough to have read before this thread)
The Howard incident led to a national debate in the U.S., in the context of racial sensitivity and political correctness, on whether use of niggardly should be avoided. As James Poniewozik wrote in Salon, the controversy was "an issue that opinion-makers right, left and center could universally agree on." He wrote that "the defenders of the dictionary" were "legion, and still queued up six abreast."[7] Julian Bond, then chairman of the NAACP, deplored the offense that had been taken at Howard's use of the word. "You hate to think you have to censor your language to meet other people's lack of understanding", he said. "David Howard should not have quit. Mayor Williams should bring him back—and order dictionaries issued to all staff who need them."[8]

Some terms really are racist.
The part of a sawmill called the "steam n1gger" (for turning logs) is properly called something else these days.

Is it true some "people" call Arabs sand ***** (N word)?

Weird!
It's not Arabs, but anyone who even remotely kinda looks Middle Eastern or kinda looks Muslim. When it comes to hatred, Americans tend to use a "shotgun of hatred" and not care if they people they attack are even really the ones they are trying to attack (such as the massacre at a Sikh temple).
