Study: People who skipped their COVID vaccine are at higher risk of traffic accidents

Good grief! And they pay people to do these studies.

People who skipped their COVID vaccine are at higher risk of traffic accidents, according to a new study

"The excess risk of car crash posed by unvaccinated drivers “exceeds the safety gains from modern automobile engineering advances and also imposes risks on other road users,” the authors wrote.

Of course, skipping a COVID vaccine does not mean that someone will get into a car crash. Instead, the authors theorize that people who resist public health recommendations might also “neglect basic road safety guidelines.”

Why would they ignore the rules of the road? Distrust of the government, a belief in freedom, misconceptions of daily risks, “faith in natural protection,” “antipathy toward regulation,” poverty, misinformation, a lack of resources, and personal beliefs are potential reasons proposed by the authors.

"The findings are significant enough that primary care doctors should consider counseling unvaccinated patients on traffic safety—and insurance companies might base changes to insurance policies on vaccination data, the authors suggest."

Doesn't sound like the most solid study, I agree. :D

I bet another study would show that Republicans are at higher risk of traffic accidents.

Also, find it a bit weird why they would use the Covid vaccine, couldn't they take any vaccine? or at least they could double-check with those to see if that would give a similar result. :)

They have done another one...

"This isn’t the first time that researchers have examined the link between behavior and vaccination status. Among young adults, a 2021 study published in the Journal of Bioeconomics found a correlation between self-reported risky driving and having skipped their flu vaccine. It examined the survey responses of more than 100,000 Canadians."

And another one would probably show people that don't wash their hands after using the bathroom are at a higher risk for traffic accidents

Possibly. It would have more to do with an underlying psychology than anything else. Those that follow the rules are less of a danger to others. Of course many that do not understand diseases will point to studies such as this to justify the actions that put themselves and other at risk in a time of pandemic.

The studies themselves are overreaching. That does not make them wrong.

Of course. A selfish disregard for social order and well being will show up in a number of anti-social behavioral traits. No surprise there.

The first couple minutes are sufficient to get the point ...

I just read through it quickly and it is not exactly the same as the first one from what I can see. It is basically opposite from what I can see.

They wanted to see if people that live "risky" are less likely to get vaccinated. Which, I think there is a decent reason to think is likely.

However, the first one (haven't read it, except from the OP) seems to want to examine whether someone getting a vaccine or not, will be more reckless when driving. So it seems to be the other way around. And my prediction is that there might seem to be a correlation, but that it is very uncertain as it would be very difficult to exclude other influences from such a study as I see it. Couldn't it be, because they like hearing loud music in the car or something else? I don't really see how they would make a connection to the Covid vaccine when doing it that way.

But again, haven't read it. :D

All they have to do is propagandize that you will lose your sex drive and appeal if you don't get vaccinated and end up as a dried prune.

I find research that discovers risk factors to be very interesting.
It's sometimes useful when designing public policy.
Fans of Freakonomics know what I mean.
But I can understand why anti-vaxers are offended by this.

But that would be a lie. And it could be a bit of projection. I have seen anti- vaxxers willing to lie for their beliefs. There may be pro-vax people that do the same. The difference is that one need not lie to support vaccination.

Lol, they just get dumber. Made up studies to try and prove made up stats.

Where insurance underwriters are involved, there are no "made-up stats". They're not going to risk a payout on a group with a higher likelihood of disregarding road rules.

To my knowledge insurance isn't involved.
Its the authors theorize that people who resist public health recommendations might also “neglect basic road safety guidelines.”
