Swelling in legs

So the past two days my knees hurt. And after I showered today I slipped into a robe because all my jeans are in the wash, two staff members told me both my legs look swollen. I think this is because I ended up getting poor shoes that broke the first day I got them and I kept wearing them despite the fact they gave me blisters because I didn't have the money for new shoes. Well I bought some new ones this time good quality last pay check they arrived today and that hopefully will fix the problem if not I'll just go get them checked could ve a side effect of HRT. In the meantime how do I lessen the swelling?

I injured my knee from dancing all night over 2 years ago - every so often I would get swelling to the back of my leg behind the knee, and I kept feeling a pinching sensation whenever I went down the stairs. I saw a physiotherapist and was given exercises to do at the gym and now I’m healed as far as I know. So it’s possible you may have injured you knees from bad shoes. If your knees continue to hurt I would check to see if you need to see a physiotherapist

Elevate them. Lie on the floor and put your legs up on a chair. 20 minutes at least. In 3 04 4 days you should notice a difference.

Therapist had an interesting theory regarding the legs swelling. So I have hair loss and it's much more then just male pattern baldness too fast and it's large patches but you wouldn't notice unless you lift up my hair like I did last night. I been hot all the time. Sweating. And irritable. She thinks it's menopause brought to you by T.

Going to doc tomorrow will get bloodwork done.

Male hormones in a biologically female body could do weird things. Treatments for trans people are still in their infancy and their are apt to be quite a few false steps since the human body is very complicated.

I hope they figure out what is happening. You mentioned a possible blood clot and those, though very tiny, can be big trouble. Be careful and listen to your doctors.

I just hope the docs don't immediately assume it's due to hormones everyone immediately blames any physical problems I have on T. It could be related but what if its not? To my knowledge while hairloss with decrease in estrogen can be rapid often it's not.

I also wonder about thyroid issues. I'm not sure if I have those but lot those symptoms can be due to hyperthyroidism. It's rare but thyroid issues can cause leg swelling.

Testosterone therapy does send you through menopause. It happens to all FTMs, although not necessarily with all those symptoms. Didn't your doctor discuss with you beforehand? Because honestly most of these doctors don't.

Yes. But swelling and rapid hair loss I never heard with menopause. I always heard hair loss is slow with menopause and T. Not rapid.

Edit:I knew hair loss was possibility and water retention. But neither sudden or rapid and as for knee pain never heard that with T.

Yeah, I don't know about that. My hair was gone within a couple of years but didn't have swelling. Just see what the lab results are.

My hair loss is in weeks not months. It's been very rapid. I'm not bald but there's patches already when i lift my hair.

I will

Edit: it's not in the pattern of male or female pattern baldness either.

So few things. They doing a full hormone panal including checking my thyroid and prolactin levels. Last time a year ago before starting T my thyroid levels were suppressed but not enough for them to say I had thyroid issues. This time the doc wonders if I have a pituitary tumor or something. No need to panick that might not be the case. It could be T she said but they are wondering if it is not and it's actually my thyroid with my symptoms.

Thyroid, CBC, and metabolic levels came back. The CBC ans metabolic levels were normal as was my vitamin b12. But the thyroid while it says it's normal is on the lower end.

Oh and my RBC is 5.42. I do not know if that's actually high like it says since I'm on T. Still waiting for other test results like T levels

Waiting for what the doctors say.

These test results all look on the low end of normal to be honest.
They do. Im hoping thats the case. I also don't know if being on T affects TSH levels and such maybe it needs to be higher or lower due to T. Add in age factors I don't know.

I'm hoping since it says normal it is indeed normal. I'll wait for the doc.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.

Sounds like a plan. I know that even "up" and above normal levels, for instance, my platelet count is too high. But my doctor is not worried about it so neither am I.

Oh prolactin levels came in. I am not even gonna guess if they normal or not. I know T can affect that, as can cycles and such, and being the fact I don't have periods anymore I don't know what that level is supposed to be. Hopefully the doctor will know it looks normal says it's normal also imma assume it is unless the doc says otherwise

And that's everything. Just waiting for the rest of my results and for the doc to tell me their interpretation of them. I'm not worried.

What criteria are they using for your level range, male or female?

Female is what the system puts. Most the time the doc can't rely on the levels if they normal or not when it comes to hormone stuff based on what the system says. I don't know fully their criteria but I reckon the doc look at both male and female ranges, maybe at some studies on transgender folk, and what my levels have been historically and go from there.

Kind of like how since starting T my RBC is always saying high due to T but is actually usually normal since I'm on T since it's basing it off of cisfemale ranges it gets it wrong.

Googling the T4 level is low for a cismale but normal for a cisfemale.

It could be for a transperson it is low due to me being on T. Idk.

So doc gave input and T results came back. Everything is normal. It could just be due to stress the hairloss and the swelling she said at the appointment may just be due to sitting for so long 6 hours in the car.
