Taxes?

I got some stupid tax forms in the mail yesterday. I now wonder, if I haven't had a job since June of 2008, do I still have to fill them out? I don't want to fill them out if I don't have to. I won't be getting any money back, because I didn't make any money last year.

No working, no filing taxes.....unless the government is particularly greedy this year.....

Do you need to give any taxable income info to anyone for scholarships or student loans?

I get grants. And I might need to get a loan later... Should I just fill it out to be on the safe side? I don't want to screw anything else up... All of this paper-work my university always makes me do is already a gigantic cluster ****... I suppose I should just fill it all out. It's just going so be a bunch of zeros though...

You could still get money back even if you didn't work depending on your situation so it might not be a waste of time to fill them out. If it turns out you owe nothing and the government owes you nothing, then I wouldn't worry about turning them in.

If I go through the trouble of filling it out, Imma turn it it, even if no one owes anyone anything. I better not owe the government anything.

If you use the 1040EZ then it is very easy to fill out, so why not? You probably won't get anything back if you didn't have any income unless you get the Earned Income Credit (EIC). It has been a while since I did my own taxes, but for this to amount to anything you will need to have more dependents than just Baggins. Twitch would count if they allowed pets, as he was around for portions of the year, but they do not count fish or Bagginses either. :(

My mom buys most of Baggins's food anyway. I just buy him dingo bones and sweaters. Those dingo bones aren't cheap though. They are $3ish for each one. I bought seven mini ones for $4something though. He's only got one of those left.

I haven't gotten any tax statements in the mail, however, I did get an anonymous letter from what appears to be a conglomerated pseudo-militia threatening to imprison me if I don't sponsor their highly-questionable interests with a percentage of my income. Should I call the police?

Yes, but if you want to be even safer call Chuck Norris.

Did you really? I'd probably just ignore it. I guess I'd show my mom and see what she thinks I should do. She's my advisor. Whenever I don't know what to do, I ask her what she thinks. :D You could ask your mom what you should do.

I get mail from Revenue Canada. A letter demanding I make a payment. But they don't specify to precisely whom, for what reason, nor what amount. They just demand I make a payment :S...

*Cries* What do I do!?

Contact a credit bureau and see if you have any outstanding debts reported. This happened to me a few years ago. Some collection agency kept sending me a notice saying I owed money but they didn't say for what or why. I looked at my credit report and found out it was from a bill I had about 8 years ago that I completely forgot about when I moved and it was just sitting there holding back my credit rating.

I shouldn't have any debt, though. I turn 19 on Sunday. I have never even gotten a student loan as I managed to pay off tuition and books by working at a job. I don't own my own vehicle. Nor my own home. I only work part time, so I don't make a whole lot of money. I do have a major credit card, but it's never been maxed out and I almost always pay it off before I even get the statement in the mail.

Could be something as minor as an unpaid phone or internet bill.
