Terri Schiavo and the office

Hey I have gotten into more religious debates (which stinks for me) in the office because I have of the Schiavo case in the last few weeks than I have in the last year. Has anyone else had this happen in work or social situations.

For me in the last two weeks starting with yesterday I argued with a theist (non determined theist) about the existance of a soul, a catholic co-worker asked me what God wanted for Terri, (could he have picked a worse co-worker to ask or what), another woman asked me if I though Terri had a soul, ect ect...everyday for two weeks...are yall getting the same in your personal communties?

Personally, I've been avoiding the subject like the plague. I watched Fox News Network (and I use the term "news" lightly) this afternoon, and among the talking heads they showcased, they had Randall Terry on. What a nugget this guy is. Immediately prior to him, they interviewed a doctor, asking him what Terri's condition is. The doctor responded by saying that at this point, even if they re-inserted the feeding tube, it is almost certain that she would pass anyway. Randall Terry comes on and starts calling the doctor "Frankenstein" and rambling with incredible rhetoric - even saying that "Terri is responsive, etc." as if Terry himself was a doctor. Aside from the fact that she hasn't been responsive for 15 years, his prognosis certainly seemed correct. :sarcastic

What a clown he is. If I were a Christian, I'd pay money to get him to NOT speak for me....

I tend to avoid it simply because most theists I know are Christian and have less knowledge of their historical faith and scriptures than I do.

I have a good friend I talk to at work who is atheist and we were having a discussion a couple weeks ago about organized atheism (He`s for it I don`t like it)
Another co-worker (LDS Member) walked into my office and overheard a bit.

He was joking around because he didn`t think we could seriously be atheists (That would make us minions of Satan y`know and he kinda likes us so we couldn`t be minions of Satan)

He said something about there already being organized atheism and he could give me the 800 number for them but not to expect anyone to answer the phone because no one ever did (Implying no one is really an atheist).

I said "Oh, so making that call is the same as praying huh?"

That must have convinced him I really am a minion of Satan and perhaps even running the phone lines at this atheist org because he didn`t reply and keeps his distance now.

You realise I must frubal you now, don't you? :biglaugh:

In regards to the OP, I don't think that most of the people I work with have even heard of Terri Schiavo. They had a brief clip on the news yesterday morning while I was in dining room, and I forgot there was a customer sitting right beside me watching the tv. I said in a frustrated mutter "Oh, f***ing bulls***!", and upon hearing me, he agreed. That's about the extent of my discussion. :biglaugh:They had headlines running along the bottom of the screen while the news reporter was talking about something else today, and I saw the parents have found yet another avenue for appeal. Good thing there were no customers within earshot this morning.

^They did, but both of their appeals got shot down by the courts.
Thanks, Saw. :) I went looking earlier and found that out...very happy to hear it, I am.

This is another matter that I try to avoid, since there's so much pain on all sides of the story. I'm glad my workplace wasn't really a chatting-about-such-things type of place.
