Amd people wonder why I just don't trust those cars. That's a horrible death and horribly obvious safety failure design that never should have happened.

Any car in a crash can have their windows disabled, I don't know too many that have wind down windows anymore.

The more electronics the car has , the more a manufacturer can soak you for on the price.
 
To have no plan B in case of an electronic
problem isn't stupid...it's a conscious decision
to make the car less safe.

To anyone who rides in a Tesla, get one of
those special hammers that'll break car windows.

Again, this is bad design.
"Human factors" in engineering is critical to function.
The procedure you quoted above wouldn't be available
to the consumer for several reasons...
- Must thoroughly read the manual ahead of time.
Who does that?
- Be able to remember the procedure in an emergency.
Panic ruins memories.
- Be able to execute the procedure in an emergency. Not
all occupants would even be physically able to remove a panel.
- Unless one is very familiar with Teslas, the natural reaction in
an emergency would be to use the door handle. to escape.
People will focus upon what they expect, even if it doesn't
work.

Good engineering design is based upon what people will/can
actually do, ie, what people expect, either by prior experience,
or after extensive training (eg, pilots). Tesla drivers are typically
accustomed to cars with mechanical door handles. This must
be a design criterion. Tesla fails on human factors design.

My Toyota Sienna has electric windows,
but mechanical door handles.
The more electronics the car has , the more a manufacturer can soak you for on the price.
You sound very socialist...blaming capitalism.
People want electronics & will pay for it.
Manufacturers respond.

Musk has it in for the poor deer too. :cry:

Detecting a deer, & avoiding it is difficult.
No matter where they are, or which way
they're moving, they'll do something different.
I detected one earlier this year. But not in time.
So I hit it. $15,000 damage.
I wish there were an option for cars to have
guards to limit the damage from hitting deer.
Alas, lack of demand, & meeting CAFE standards
means it doesn't happen.

Doors should fail safe to unlocked.
In the same way industrial processes fail to safe.
For instance all paper cutting guillotines fail to blade up not down.
Car doors could be the same in the case of power failure or accident.

Someone must have made the choice not to do so, at the design stage.
And again when examining the safety provisions.

From now on it should be a minimum requirement. If there is no manual override.
