Actually Texas has swung massivly into the democratic side in terms of popular vote and has been doing so over the past decade or longer. It was once blood red and no one EVER thought it could become a battlegroudn state but if the democratic population keeps growing at such explosive rates then it will be a swing vote despite gerrymandered districts.

And Texas is not a problem presidentially but rather in the House of representatives. They hold several members (I think the most out of any red state). That is where their real government powerhose comes from.

Aw Dallas, not meaning to pick on you or Texans. As you probably remember I'm not from the States and when I read that I truly wanted to understand what that meant. Now I understand a bit better about gerrymandering is and realigning districts etc. Makes a whole lot more sense having it explained. So hope you don't think my question was anything against Texans. :)

We should just let Texas secede already and let it become the 3rd world, far right theocracy it wants to be.

I disagree - it's to valuable.

Texans simply need to hold their leaders accountable to the law, and federal courts need to do their job. There are many strategies that we can take that are far more effective than secession - punishing Texas for not funding education by withholding funding for roads (etc), enforcing laws against illegal redistricting, passing nationwide voting laws instead of statewide, imprisoning legislators who conspire for voter fraud, etc.

The thing is, a lot of things that are going on in Texas are already illegal -- it just takes so long for lawsuits to get through -- by then, the damage is often done.

It would be wonderful to have a legitimate election here.

They might be better off.
According to....
United States Federal Tax Dollars | CreditLoan.com®
Texas only gets back $.94 for every $1.00 in fed income taxes paid.
They'd probably be one of the most prosperous countries in the world.
Let's keep'm. They talk funny & they have some great food.

I also don't like the idea of rewarding a state that has made it a priority to demonize and oppress the rights of Americans with little interference and protection from the law.

We shouldn't give the conservatives anything.

Well, if we keep you critters in the union, you'll still be subject to the Constitution.
Besides, I recall the shenanigans that Uncle Lyndon played in TX, so I don't trust any of
you guys, left or right....nuthin more than Illinois politicians with cowboy boots & six guns.

I think that Texas will follow the Constitution when its laws are enforced. There is a shocking level of hatred for basic human rights in Texas, but when federal law is enforced, Texas eventually follows it.

And the powers that be care more about money than they do about anything else. Punishment would be far more effective, making the powers that be unpopular unless they change.

The rest of the country should be thinking punishment rather than reward.

They can take the rest of the southern and northern states with them that want to secede.....No more disaster relief or welfare for them.....:D

This is just backwards.

Why do people go to war? To kill people and take their stuff.

A country doesn't just give valuable land, resources, and infrastructure to a hostile that isn't powerful enough to defend it. Seriously. That's why we don't let the neocons take a good portion of the country with oil, minerals, water, coastline, and an infrastructure that can support a large number of people.

Also, Southerners are Americans, too. Not everyone supports the lawlessness of neo-conservatism, and if the system were not so corrupt, these voices would be far more visible.
