The 3 Setians

The 3 Setians

The first Setian is yet to become a Setian. This individual may have recently learned about Set, the LHP, or Satanism and may or may not be in contact with someone with ties to the Temple of Set. Internet searches and reading materials are normal for this individual. This person may or may not have LHP experience. Some will have been an occult follower for years while others are just getting acquainted with the concepts. This is an exciting time because the individual is learning something new and acquiring eye-opening experience and desires to know more. I do admire this person because they are, or have, taken a step toward a larger Universe than those that have decided to not glance this way. The questions and experiences from this fresh set of eyes is valuable in this forum.

The second Setian is a formal member of the Temple of Set. This is one that is on the inside of the organization. They may or may not have ever been a participant of the above paragraph but typically only those with years of Setian experience actually post here. That's OK, this way we get seasoned responses from the veterans with years of experience. But lets be clear, this is the voice of those that can't make it on their own without the structure of the Temple. Their friends are there, it's familiar to them, and they know the ins and outs of the organization. Some even control the ins and outs making decisions for the rest of them. For them it is warm and cozy. As you consider further contact with them consider that your opt-in fees are minimal and, if accepted, you'll have access to their private discussion forum and some member contact if only by e-mail or IM. After you become known to them you may get invited to one of their private meetings (called Conclave). With attendance you'll get to see other members face to face and have discussions and attend (magical) Workings where everyone is robed in black garments. Kind of spooky but you'll live through it. After a year or two (or more) you'll have to decide if they can really teach you anything further. Then things get interesting. You will either stay or go at that point.

The third Setian is the one that experienced paragraph two and is no longer a member of the Temple of Set yet has used the tools obtained there to advance in the world of Horrors. This one may be the more powerful Setian due to the confidence level it takes to move about in this realm without the back-up of a brood of members to aid and comfort him. This sort is usually despised by current members whose position seems to be, “you don't know what your missing so keep your mouth shut about everything”. If you ask yourself why is a person that had 1,2 or 10+ years experience as a Temple of Set member so vilified by current members, what gives with that? You'll know if this sort of individual is genuine or not by the character they demonstrate. By the way you'll also know the character of the Temple of Set by the way its current members behave outside the walls of the Temple of Set. Remember those videos you watched by a few senior members? You would hope they would inspire right. The only way you are going to know is to join, at least for a while, so the third type of Setian may encourage you to join for that reason. The strongest most powerful Setians have left the Temple of Set. I think of the Harry Potter analogy. In the Harry Potter series there is one character whose name must not be spoken as this individual is not welcome at Hogwarts and the Setians that leave the Temple are similarly stigmatized yet they survive and prosper on their own. It is the strength from within the individual that causes this. The Temple of Set is but a single step in this process.

concerning the 3rd type.. I guess that I as a never-member can say something about that precisely because I am not involved. I have seen cases where someone left and was not vilified. The usual plot in such a case is that the person found the TOS quite a useful step and appreciates the things he learned there, but wanted to seek other paths elsewhere. Those are not vilified; normally, a farewell with best wishes is the reaction from the TOS folk.

Only when someone leaves or is expelled AND criticises the TOS, some sort of mutually negative relationship develops. As outsider, you then have only two different versions of the story. Every side renders the story in its own favour. From the outside, it is extremely difficult to form an opinion because usually, both versions contain some amount of truth.

That is not even TOS specific. You see, if the group in question had wanted to comply with whatever alternative way the ex-member had in mind, then they would have done so. But they did not. So there is no way for the group but to somehow refute what the ex-member is saying. Otherwise, they would endanger their group identity, and every group is very concerned about survival of the group - those who are not are unlikely to be around for long. So, just normal human behaviour..

You have forgotten the 4th type which evolves from the 1st without taking path 2, developing his own understanding of Setianism. You will usually get some sort of freaky Setian with an unusual kind of Setianism. I know at least of three such persons, myself included. (-;

Eric,

You almost had me thinking you were a dead ringer for Don Webb until your third paragraph. Those of us in the Temple have many friends who have left and we're still friends with them. The only ones who get "villified" as you say are those who have gotten expelled. Most are I° & II°'s with a few III°'s (which was a long time ago).

I° & II° aren't technically part of the religious part of the Temple because they don't know what Set is, but they can work with the initiatory side. They don't know about the inner workings of the Temple in most cases. The few III°'s who were expelled has been over 8 years or more and we've changed a lot since then. We aren't the same Temple of Set and what they knew then doesn't necessarily apply now. Many of them keep trying to come back too. It's rare that we vilify ex-Setians more than those who come to us telling us we don't know what we're talking about. We must know something because it's been working for us for over 30 years. How many other LHP religions can say that?

Xeper,
Magister Robert Adams

I believe you are correct. My apology for omitting the 4th Setian. Thank you!

And several were IV° or have you forgotten the notorious RB, AB, MK, NS, ZS and others. You say you are a different group today but that's always what every group with a checkered past claims. So, before you begin to feud with me perhaps we can find some middle ground and appeal to the more Noble aspects of Set, Xeper, and other virtuous elements of the LHP through dignity and respect while still disagreeing from time to time.

RB and MK are still friends of mine. I haven't talked to AB in several years. For comments on the Nick and Zeena show see my other thread.

I usually don't take the first swing and neither do most of the others in the Temple it's usually a response to something from one of them. The Nick and Zeena show is just a sore spot with me because they hurt a lot of people in the Temple who thought they were their friends and nobody listened to me when I was trying to say otherwise. So, that's all I'm going to say anymore.

Back then we didn't have things like Skype to communicate with each other as easily as we do today and we have regular conferences with people from all over the world within the ToS. We also don't recognize people by email or snail mail anymore and because of it we get to know each other better and we haven't had anyone except one member leave on a bad note in several years and he was even removed from THIS forum for talking bad about the ToS. That's the first time I've had to respond to any comments from expelled Setians in years.

Xeper,
Magister Robert Adams

As obvious as it is, i identify with Setian #1. It's true about the motivation, mine is uncanny and i feel that theres nothing i can't overcome, nothing in my way, no fear of regressing.

As Magister Adams says in his pod-cast with Dr. Aquino... "before joining the Temple, one has to be sound in his personal life, mentally secure and able to perform in society as a functional civilian." I was a kid once, made a stupid decision because of even more stupid company, but nothing crazy or insane by any means.

I'm afraid this could jeopardize my affiliation because the application asks if I ever been in trouble with the law. As a 20 year old i wasn't "Awake"...begining to "Refine", "Become" yet, just immature.

Today, 15 yrs later, I'm extremely successful, own a 5 bedroom home, 4 vehicles married to a beautiful wife who's a Nurse Practitioner and have wonderful children and as responsible as one can be, but a "Responsible Setian Initiate!", (which is more effective than your neighbor...lol better company too). I'm "Sound", "Mentally Secure" and wealthy in body, mind and spirit. Not only financially.

My fear is that an ancient past decision may fuel a debate on why i can't join... a blow like that is too hard to take after all these years of intense Setian focus, all in the hopes to become affiliated.

Do you see my dilemma?

Valor,

I'm going to talk with the HP about this. We definitely won't let in prisoners or convicted felons, but if it was a "victimless crime" such as you were busted for pot possession that's a bit different.

No...i don't use drugs. I'm more of a book worm. Drugs cause crimes which result in victims Magister, many victims and families and towns are torn in two over drugs, wars are waged...and people, good people die.

The pot just getting here has blood on it my dearest friend, probably shipped with the heroin. Cartels are polluting our countries lively-hood. Some day my children ,our children, may be in the way of these wars, only to have to move, to possibly repeat. How can we sleep at night knowing bullets may fly through our sons/daughters window one night, or walking to school or college? Drugs are a cancer to our society, infiltrating our way of life... "the very structure we Xeper within."

Are you telling me it would be OK if I contributed to this mess and "still" able join the Temple? But not OK if i made out with the wrong girl 13 yrs ago..i was a kid myself?

I'm not a Magus by far, but a Magus would see this and create cosmic change. I contribute to this cause by volunteering at 4 local rehabs and 2 sober homes for youths 3 to 4x week... very demanding and tiring, but I'm doing my part to make that change, Wife too. But not enough to join the Temple? Somebody needs to talk to me...

Eric Cow: My apologies for being "off topic" on your thread.

I want this step... I want this process. )(

Why is do you think that they become more powerful once they left? Is it because they are now elite & learned, or just Setian rouges that can't be "tamed" (if you will)?

Not all that depart continue to follow the Setian path. Some decide it's a disappointment and happily move on. Others make the conscious decision to Work the tools and benefit from them.

May I ask; do you need to be “tamed” or “elite” in order to be happy and successful? What could possibly make someone a “rogue” anyway? Disagreements, frustrations, being lied to, leaders that set you up then disappear from the ranks, members using what they know as a gotcha against you and similar events might lead to one being labeled rogue. What does being a rogue mean to you anyway? What if something like that happened to you? Would you be a rogue? Just hypothetical situations, no reply required.

Perhaps the value is the training and the training comes in the form of study then application of the Art. You can read much material about Setian philosophy but what then? An advantage you may have by joining the Temple of Set is that they are there to tell you when you get it wrong or headed in the wrong direction. Wouldn't you agree that that is worth the membership dues for a year or two? I think it is something to consider. That said, with a higher approach to ethics you might not actually need that crutch but it's not up to me to decide for you and either way I tend to think you will make a good decision. I'm certainly not opposed to people joining that group, good luck to you!

Being elite is something fragile. It's just you and your group and not those outsiders. How much time will you set aside to be an insider? If too much, be careful, as it could damage other necessary things like family and business relationships. Too little and the superiors will not feel you are elite enough to renew your membership next time (and yes they can decline your renewal). So being on the outside has its advantages and being elite isn't on the list. IMO.

I will give everything it takes... Being the Owner of my business gives me all the time i need, I'm able to retreat on a dime if need be. No conclave or library is out of reach, even if it's international, hell, I'll bring Magister Adams on my back to Zimbabwe if i have to. LOL!

I've come to that stage in my Initiation where i can share my experiences and need to learn from those who've "been there".

It is much easier to be entertaining and witty than to buckle down and do the work. You don't need to answer my question but expect a long process of similar questions should you enter the Temple of Set.

Question #2: How do you understand the term Lesser Black Magic (LBM)? What does it mean to you?

This is the type of training you should get ready for to be a Setian.

My sincerest apologies for such a delay in responding to your questions Eric. I was caught off guard on my way out the door and did not want to rush and give you a half effort-ed answer.

Concerning Books:
Webb,
Uncle Setnakt's Essential Guide to the LHP
Seven Faces of Darkness
Mysteries of the ToS: Inner teachings of the LHP
The Fire and the Force

Steven Flowers/Edred Thorsson
Lords of the LHP
Black runa
Red Runa
Green Runa
Blue Runa
A Book of Thoth
Carnal Alchemy
Hermetic Magic
Nine Doors of Midgard
The Book of Ogham
The Secret King
(I'm missing a few more I'm sure off the top of my head)

P.D. Ouspensky,
The psychology of Man's Possible Evolution
The Fourth way
Tertium Organum
New model of the universe
Conscience: search for truth

Robert Green,
48 laws of Power
The Art of Seduction

LaVey,
Everything published.

Nietzsche,
Thus Spake Zarathustra
Hammer of the Gods
The Antichrist
Beyond Good and Evil
The Will to Power

Concerning files and online:

I've literally read and printed everything I've ever searched for concerning "Setian philosophy" online, including everything from Aquino and the Tablets of Set. But the Tablets are older versions, most likely unrevised versions from the 80's. Including Balanones Work..ect.

Eric, i spent the last ten years building a pretty proficient library in its own designated room, (was a dream of mine) i have a couple thousand titles, (not all are of LHP influence) but these above are the ones I've shoved my face in countless times and studied while taking notes. I'm sure I'm forgetting a handful.

Please, if you have more titles?
