The Beatles

John Lennon said once on national television that Teh Beatles were becoming bigger than Jesus Christ. Where any of you offended? I want to know what other people think of what he said. Judging by most people, he made a mistake saying that...

[FONT=&quot]It is my opinion that those offended were or are simply making a mountain out of a molehill. John was merely commenting on the Beatles' popularity.

He was just expressing amazement that they have become so popular, and probably thought it was out of whack as far as priorities go.

And for that, there were all sorts of Beatles bonfires, and people still decry the late John Lennon as if he were somehow comparing himself to Jesus on the same level. sheesh

I remember too well when this happened, especially the part about my parents getting their knickers in a twist over it. Needless to say, my brother and I were not impressed. :(

If I was offended by anything, it was the sheer stupidity and unwillingness to consider a remark in its full context before they went off equating Lennon with Satan Incarnate. sheesh

It makes as much sense as burning down buildings because of cartoons, if ya know what I mean.

John was always making caustic comments about the state of society. When he made the observation that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus it was obvious to anyone watching that he meant this as social criticism.

When a million people, who evidently had never viewed the tape, came to the conclusion that this was braggadocio or that he was somehow denigrating Jesus, no-one was more surprised than John.
