The Big Short

Saw "The Big Short" last night. It was about the economic meltdown of the housing market in 2008. Despite the subject matter, it was done so well that the movie was engaging. I had the good fortune to see it with a friend who had been somewhat involved in the housing market at the time of the meltdown, and he was impressed with how accurate the movie was.

Basically banks were allowed to sell mortgages to investors. The system was corrupt and so those mortgages were rated AAA. The banks then no longer cared if the home buyer paid off the mortgage because the investor took the hit. The banks then granted mortgages to high risk home buyers because the banks risked nothing.
This is what happens when the banksters and Wall Street control the government ,disaster !

I am forced to assume you two only remained friends after he allowed you to flog him repeatedly for his sins?

The movie goes into much much more detail than that, yet manages to do it in an easy to understand manner. For instance, if you did not already understand the role syndicated CDOs played in the housing meltdown, by the end of the movie, you will vividly understand their role and you will have had fun learning it.

Very good movie!

I went into it with minimal expectations and came away very impressed. Plus Carrell and Bale deliver to of the better performances this year.
