The Bill Nye / Ken Ham DEBATE: "Is creation a viable model of origins in today's scientific era?"

Interested in watching ?
(Although the program's title implies the debate is to be about "origins," my guess is that Ham is just conflating this with evolution again and will be looking to tear into evolution.)

It's coming this Tuesday, February 4, at 7:00 PM (ET) at the Creation Museum in northern Kentucky.

Sometimes I wonder what it must feel like to be a so-called Creationist.

I should be ashamed of myself.

i think bill nye will do a wonderful job and hold on his own - i'm not too sure about the other fella - maybe he is in over his head regarding a literal interpretation of bible's genesis - and, did you guys hear about that one school in the south and that poor buddhist student that was ostracized and harassed? :(

Don't know, but I highly doubt it, unless Nye insisted on it. I can't see Ham wanting to be moderated by anyone.

Nah, seems to me it's going to be a PR stunt to support the YEC assertion that there's actually some kind of debate within the scientific community. I wish credible people wouldn't participate in such things, but I assume Bill Nye is being paid quite handsomely for his appearance by Ham's organization.

Several people have said much the same thing. Anyone of repute who debates creationism only lends it a credibility it doesn't deserve, which I agree with. That said, I will still tune in to see how it goes.

Yeah, I don't think these public spectacles are beneficial, but pop sci public figures need to make a living. It's kind of like when Blowhard O'Reilly "debated" Jon Stewart. It was a ratings gimmick, not a debate. Both of them are entertainers and they were obviously paid handsomely to appear.

In this case, I expect Ham probably does this kind of thing for free to promote his various fundraising vehicles and projects. And I'm sure he draws a handsome salary from those contributions. But Bill Nye? Nothing in it for him, so I assume he's being paid.

Personally I'm hard pressed to envision of more colossal waste of time than listening to such a debate. Like, the good news is listening to Bill Nye? Jeeez. Maybe it's just me but when I think of "goto" people in science, Bill Nye never enters my mind. My guess is that he has been offered in obscene amount of money and couldn't say no.
