In the Gospel of Mark, the story of the "rich man" and "blind Bartimaeus" are rhetorically opposite.
In Mark 10.17-23, Jesus encounters a rich man who cannot sell his possessions and follow Jesus... in Mark 10.50, the blind beggar who was invited - who did not even approach Jesus on his own "throws off his cloak" - most likely his only possession - and rushes to Jesus.
Jesus heals the blind man, and having left everything he has, Bartimaeus follows him.
