The Burning of Quran – A Modern Act of Barbarism

As a bibliophile, I find the burning of ANY books reprehensible regardless of whether or not i like what is in them!

I know what you mean. My bookshelf is three books deep on each row and I still have more. I wouldn't dream of burning a book for any reason.

Why should I bother to study the quran when even those who specialize in it do not agree about what it says? If even the experts can come up with arbitrary interpretations, it would be a waste of my time to do so since it seems that anything at all can be justified using the quran.

Muslims just can't win according to thoughts like this. On one hand, we're accused of being "conformist" and insisting that we all think alike, and on the other hand, we're criticized and our book considered a waste of time because 1/5 of the population can't agree on every word the Qur'an says.

All three of the Abrahamic religions get this criticism tho. There is just as much controversial material in the Bible as there is in the Koran. Some people just care about it more than others.

if the disagreements were over minor matters, I would be happy to agree with your complaint. However, the disagreements are not trivial. They are leading to great cruelties and the wholesale slaughter of actual people. If such very important matters are not clear in the quran, what good is it?

I don't believe there is more in the bible to be honest cause I've tried to find it in both believe me. I thought there was a passage in the bible allowing a person to use a stick the thickness of the thumb but it doesn't exist. Not that the bible isn't against women just a bit more lax than the quran. Also on the other side the quran watered down some of the stories so you don't have things like Lot impregnating his daughters like in the OT. To me both those texts could use some modernization and critical thinking and revising but depending on what your looking for it could go either way with bible vs. quran.

edit: at any rate seems I agree but depends on the subject of contraversy
