A lot of things are understated in the Scriptures which have insane implications (like seemingly 90% of what St. Paul says), so this must be big. What do you think it means?

In his book, The Selfish Gene, Richard Dawkins acknowledges the fact that the gene has evolved to the point where, having developed the human brain, genetic evolution has to some extent run its course. By creating the organ through which a new replicator is able to evolve propitious novelty at a speed unthinkable in the archaic realm of the gene, the gene appears to have created the means for its own demise.

For we are the circumcision, which . . have no confidence in the flesh.

Philippians 3:3.

. . . you are circumcised . . . by putting off the body . . . of flesh, by the circumcision . . ..

Colossians 2:11.

Paul began a cottage industry by elevating the meme and deflating the gene. His cottage industry has grown into a global corporation of biblical proportions:

Under Paul, beliefs became the focal points for movements that, freed of genetic anchors, could sweep across the face of the world, gathering humans of all kinds within their grasp. For when Paul separated genes and gods, he helped unleash a force that would bring together superorganismic groupings on a scale the world had never seen. He helped make the meme the world's most powerful form of replicator.

Paul equates our freedom from the flesh (freedom from our genes) with circumcision. And a sentence just quoted from Howard Bloom's excellent writing is key to how circumcision relates to the end of the epoch of the gene. "For when Paul separated genes and gods, he helped unleash a force that would bring together superorganismic groupings on a scale the world had never seen."

In the ancient world, the tribal god ---male --- practiced jus primae noctis so that the firstborn of every marriage was god's son, and thus entered into the priesthood of God. All the other offspring of the marriage were the offspring of the bride and her groom. In this way, the god or gods created their families, and their chosen clan, through direct, phallic, patrilineage.

In this epoch, genes and gods are co-mingled such that the god's chosen tribe is the means through which he engages the rest of the world. His priests, which are his sons through jus primae noctis, enlighten and guide the heathens outside the tribe, while the non-priests of the tribe shows the heathens who won't listen to the priests the business end of god's wrath.

The Pauline implication that the circumcision scar is a memetic prosthesis implies that the scar itself is a meme able to replicate, and in its replication, create a new world order orders of magnitude more remarkable than any of the products of the gene and its epoch. Paul implies that the circumcision scar is in fact a meme: it is the sign, or signifier, of an idea, whose time, having come, marks, right on the significant flesh, the end of the gene, and thus the pruning of the tree of that kind of life, gene life, which the scar symbolizes cutting down to a mere stump, so that the prosthesis, the meme of the end of the gene, can, in place of the tree of genetic life, sprout forth to spread its own seed in place of the seed of the newly scarred gene replication mechanism.

. . . you are circumcised . . . by putting off the body . . . of flesh, by the circumcision . . ..

Colossians 2:11.

[Paul] . . . helped make the meme the world's most powerful form of replicator.

Circumcision is not useful in any way shape or form and is akin to genital mutilation w/o consent.

As another author, Daniel Dennett, points out (supporting Richard Dawkins' claim), for billions of years the gene evolved at the speed of a sloth or a hare. Then, about the time the keeping of time changed from BC to AD, a new replicator appears on the scene. So the frightened gene machines, represented at the time by Rome and Jerusalem, attempt to put the genie back in the bottle by crucifying it before it replicates, only to realize that it doesn't replicate using semen or genes, but by using memes. Inadvertently, they spread the memes far and wide until finally Gutenberg creates a quasi-phallic mechanism to spread the Crucified One's memes exponentially faster.

The first memes come, so to say, through Gutenberg's reproductive mechanism, spread Luther's treatise concerning the Crucified One:

If we want to explain these [advanced] aspects of brains and psychology as they appear in modern societies, we need to understand the origins and spread of high rates of literacy---when and why did most people start reading? . . . It began late in 1517, just after Halloween, in the small German charter town of Wittenberg. A monk and professor named Martin Luther had produced his famous Ninety-Five Theses. . . Luther's Ninety-Five Theses marked the eruption of the Protestant Reformation. . . Embedded deep in Protestantism is the notion that individuals should develop a personal relationship with God and Jesus. To accomplish this, both men and women needed to read and interpret the sacred scripture ---the Bible ----for themselves, and not rely primarily on the authority of supposed experts, priests, or institutional authorities like the Church. . . Protestantism spread from Wittenberg like the ripples created by tossing a stone in a pond. . . Thus we can take proximity to ground zero of the Reformation ---Wittenberg ---as a cause of . . . raised literacy and schooling in its wake.

Joseph Henrich, Chair of the Department of Human Evolutionary Biology, Harvard University, The WEIRDest People in the World, p. 8-9 [bracketed comment mine].

Professor Henrich goes on to show that cultural changes related to Luther and the Protestant Reformation, by increasing literacy significantly, actually fed back into the biology of the children of the Reformation such that test show that the brain architecture of WEIRD people is fundamentally changed: the meme feeds back into the genes transforming the genes into meme-machines whose primary goal is to jettison the gene-machine in favor of bodies created from incorruptible materials (materials not subject to senescence and death). Using this memetically-modified brain, children of the Reformation, men like Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein, hypothesized some of the changes in human thought that are leading to the incorruptible bodies that will soon be possessed by those who are circumcised from the flesh.

For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

1 Corinthians 15:54.

For we that are in this genetic tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not as though we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up in immortal life.

2 Corinthians 5:4.

We account the Scriptures of God to be the most sublime philosophy. I find more sure marks of authenticity in the Bible than in any profane history whatsoever.

By implying that the phallus is the organ representing gene replication as opposed to meme replication, the significance of circumcision as the sign of the end of the one, and the beginning of the other, could hardly be more perfect. To be born Jewish a person needs to have a Jewish mother, but not a Jewish father. The father is insignificant concerning the Jewishness of the mother's offspring. In Jewish law, the male organ of the father is memetically, legally, and conceptually, eliminated, emasculated, scarred. It plays no role in the Jewishness of the offspring.

This implies that the Jewish mother appears to provide the best soil for harvesting Jewish memes. Non-Jews can convert to Judaism and thereafter fertilize their formerly Gentile, genetic, soil, in a manner that allows them to be more fertile for Jewish memes, but it's the memes and not genes that really determine superiority or inferiority. Genetic measurements of such things lead to racism, and patrilineal/genetic privileges, which are the sworn enemy of the evolution of the meme.

This makes the relationship between genes and memes the crux, so to say, of the issue, if you will, and most of you won't. Further, what's the relationship between memes and genes, memes and the phallus? How would the phallus have a relationship to memes when it's actually the source, the very branch, where gender, and genetic, difference, and inequality, blossom and grow into fruit?

There appears to be a visible, and digestible, reason, why Judaism privileges the womb of the mother, while circumcising the phallus of the father. There's a clear and obvious reason why circumcision (brit milah) is the quintessential sign of the advent, or epoch, the arrival as it were, of Jewish memes, and thus what St. Paul refers to as a new spiritual creature.

Judaism literally, figuratively speaking, bleeds the gene producer in order to remake it into a meme spreader. By bleeding the phallus as the central meme representing Judaism, Jews replace the fruitfulness of Adam and Eve, through which they began what Professor Wolfson refers to as the "reign of the phallus," into the reign not of the phallus, but the Word. The Word (or meme, i.e., the significant mark, the scar) is incarnated into the most appropriate flesh so far as its dominance over that flesh is concerned:

The theme of circumcision thus plays a crucial part in the zoharic polemic with the Christian faith. In clever exegetical fashion, the author of the Zohar turns the Pauline view regarding circumcision on its head. . . through the physical rite the corporeal is spiritualized and the spiritual is corporalized. In the final analysis, circumcision (milah) is the true incarnation of the divine word (milah) in the flesh.

Elliot R. Wolfson, Luminal Darkness, p. 196.

The blood drawn at brit milah (ritual circumcision), represents the end of gender and or racial authority. It's the beginning of a new world order that's ordered by those possessing the memetic prosthesis where there was formerly only the unscathed gene producing phallus, so that now:

There is neither Jew nor Gentile, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for you are all one new species in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:28.

The scar manufactured at the ritual circumcision is a world-altering meme whose significance is having its way with the explosion of world-altering evolutionary technologies. Every participant, at every ritual circumcision, is supposed to leave impregnated by the Jewish meme such that they leave augmented with a memetic prosthesis implanted on the Gentile flesh.

Symbolically, the genital flesh is removed, and the meme takes its place (prosthetically), such that the only way to initiate the meme and get it to function properly is to cut all the way through to the bone of the truth of the Gentile gene-machine and picture the scar as the prosthetic replacement that devalues and deforms the organ that was formerly the very determination of human power and authority in the nations.

In this sense the circumcision scar really is the paramount symbol of what being Jewish is all about since the meaning of the scar clearly symbolizes the transference of what was originally the domain of the gene, into the new world order of the meme. What could possibly symbolize the end of the reign of the gene, the reign of phallic authority, better than placing a bloody scar right on the organ most associated with all genetic difference, all racial privilege, and all gender-based authority? The glorious circumcision scar (Nedarim 32a) is a man-made memetic-prosthesis growing out of the now defunct propagation tool that was defrauding the truth concerning its ill got faux-seminality in relationship to mind, and mind products, i.e., memes.

What is it that blossoms forth [ציץ] from the sealing [brit milah] of this holy covenant? That the living God becomes our only God . . ..

Rabbi Hirsch, Horeb, p. 535.

In context, Rabbi Hirsch is clearly implying that something sprouts forth, blossoms out of, the newly coppiced (on the eighth day) stump of the organ worshiped by the ancient phallic-cults as emblematic of the non-Jewish tree of life:

By worshiping the lingam [phallus] one is not deifying a physical organ, but simply recognizing a form that is eternal and divine manifested in the microcosm. The human organ is the image of the divine emblem, the eternal and causal form of the lingam, present in all things. . . it is not the phallus in itself which is revered but that for which it is the sign, the progenitor, the cosmic individual.

Alain Danielou, The Phallus, p. 11, 13.

At ritual circumcision, something is blossoming forth from the gentile tree of life, the Gentile god organ. So when Rabbi Hirsch states at this point that the living God becomes the Jew's only God, he appears to be consciously or unconsciously speaking of something like Christian incarnation whereby the unknowable God of Jewish monotheism begins a new hypostasis when he sprouts out of the broken branch worshiped by the pagans as the emblem, lingam, of god, par excellent. Rabbi Hirsch's basal shoot is thereafter known as the "living" God. This is not the unknowable, un-representable God of the patriarchal fathers, but something inconceivably new:

God is my victory and song; this was my salvation. Henceforth, this is my God, I would be to Him an abode. He was already my father's God; I would raise Him higher still.

The Hirsch Chumash, Exodus 15:2.
Rabbi Hirsch is responding to Exodus 15:2:

The LORD is my strength and song, And he is become my salvation ישועה: He is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; My father’s God, and I will exalt him.

Connecting Rabbi Hirsch's two streams of thought, we have brit milah, ritual circumcision, representing a fundamental theological transformation from what the pagans see as the tree of life (the tree of life as an arboreal/anthropocentric manifestation of divinity incarnate), i.e., the branch through which one seminal testimony concerning human life must pass to enter into its particular brand of existence.

I think mutilating your own genitals is a worrying choice, but one an adult can make for themselves. I think mutilating the genitals of a child is child abuse, and hang your head in shame anyone who knowingly harms a child.

I think it's relatively easy to appreciate the obviousness of your statement. It's clearly much more difficult to accept that there's justification for removing flesh from that area without the consent of the one losing that flesh.
