the complete ufc/mma thread

since there are only 2-3 threads on the ufc here on rf with a handful of replies in each, a single thread would broaden the topic for discussion and would make the thread more long-lasting

discuss all things related to mma/ufc



I'll start with yesterday's main event, junior dos santos vs cain velasquez -the 3'rd encounter

For the first three rounds, I was caught up in it, forgetting to sit down for a few moments
It was very similar to their 2'nd fight, junior had no answer on how to counter cain's tactics, once again he was pressed against the cage, he received several blows to his legs (knee strikes) and some "dirty" punches, he stood there like a dazed buffalo, completely clueless on how to react. So much striking power, but rendered useless by cain's strategy.
He should have prepared better, should have had a better strategy. He knew what to expect.
In my opinion, he should have moved around a lot more (better footwork), always keeping distance between himself and cain, so that he had room for his powerful punches.
Too bad for him.

weidman vs machida
rousey vs alexis davis

any predictions?

from what I've seen in rousey's previous fights, her opponents looked scared before the fight, you could see it on their faces, rousey on the other hand looked like she intended to dominate and she did dominate, with ease...maybe this alexis davis will be another armbar victim

weidman vs machida? I can't imagine how this fight will go, I think for machida this will be a little personal since he's friends with anderson silva, and we know what weidman did to silva

jon jones's previous fight against that glover guy was a real disappointment, so much hype for the fight but really a poor contest

I'm going to have to think about the Machida Weidman bout before making a prediction, and look at some stats.

I don't watch UFC aside from once or twice a year with friends who go buck. I did see Silva break his leg against Weidman. And I do like Machida because he's a traditional martial artist.

I do some boxing and a lot of running, and sometimes listen to Warrior soundtrack

I don't watch UFC.

Though, when I was a teenager I had an mma sparring match against a reigning women's Ring of Combat champion from a higher weight class.

(It didn't go very well for me, lol.)
