The evolution of written languages in the Middle East

This a topic I have been interested in for a long time. The nature of the evolution of Middle Eastern written languages lies at the foundation of all Middle Eastern religions. To begin the discussion I will propose that the written languages of the Middle East evolved from two sources. Sumerian cuneiform in the East and Egyptian in the West. Later the evolution of Western alphabets.

The evolution of later Arabic and Farsi scripts is an interesting side discussion.

I believe trade is the primary motivation for the beginning of writing.

My interest in the evolution of writing was rekindled by the references concerning the Amarna letters found in Akhetaten, founded by pharaoh Akhenaten (1350s–1330s BC) during the Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt. This library of communications with Northern kingdoms and vassal states in what was Canaan ic very revealing concerning the diplomatic language of the time.

More to follow on the Amarna communications. I need to get the sources I need.
