The female orgasm. Why?

This obviously is not a "how-to" thread. That belongs in the Eros room. I am directing the topic toward a theological and philosophical debate. Therefore, explicit content is not necessary nor desirable here.

I am curious of speculations from the Abrahamic religions on why females were built to have orgasms, since she can still hand her part in procreation without having any orgasms in her life.

Therefore, what is the reason God decided to design women with specific bodily functions that has the sole purpose for pleasure? Is there anything Biblical (Christians) that supports your reasoning? Why can females have orgasms?

Perhaps the Song of Solomon and many Proverbs can serve as biblical evidence that God created some specific bodily funcitons solely for pleasure.

Proverbs says that God gave humanity wine specifically for pleasure - so why not sex?

Proverbs 5
15Drink water from your own cistern,
flowing water from your own well.
16Should your springs be scattered abroad,
streams of water in the streets?
17Let them be for yourself alone,
and not for strangers with you.
18Let your fountain be blessed,
and rejoice in the wife of your youth,
19a lovely deer, a graceful doe.
Let her breasts fill you at all times with delight;
be intoxicated[d] always in her love.

20Why should you be intoxicated, my son, with a forbidden woman
and embrace the bosom of an adulteress?[e]
21For a man's ways are before the eyes of the LORD,
and he ponders[f] all his paths.
22The iniquities of the wicked ensnare him,
and he is held fast in the cords of his sin.
23He dies for lack of discipline,
and because of his great folly he is led astray.

Ecclesiastes 9:9
Enjoy life with the wife whom you love, all the days of your vain life that he has given you under the sun, because that is your portion in life and in your toil at which you toil under the sun.
Ecclesiastes 9:8-10 (in Context) Ecclesiastes 9 (Whole Chapter)

We believe sex is not just for procreation, but for pleasure as well. Why else would God give women a clitoris - it serves no reproductive purpose.

And there is why my curiosity exists............God could have designed men to have a clitoris, too, but he didn't. Why only women?

Men don't have it............pleasure is playing dual purpose with reproduction with male physiology, and therefore pleasure and ecstasy does not exist by itself from a male experience.

However, it can and does exist from a female experience. Pleasure and ecstasy stands alone and independent from any other bodily experience with her. Is this a gift to women that can be valued by the whole of humanity? Is it an accident? A curse?

Either I don't understand this statement or I don't understand women. Either way, this seems like an overgeneralization.

Yes!!!! Like everything else that is part of humanity!

You don't understand women. :D

But that's OK, because women are hard to understand...........even by other women!

At the risk of going into psycho-babble, I believe it's because a woman's strength lies not in rationality, but in intuition and emotional connection. A woman can and does possess a degree of both, but often times she "feels" her way through things and matters. Pleasure and ecstasy - and communicating these experiences - has it's importance in female physiology.

Her gift of emotional connection, intimate communication, and experience for (strictly speaking) sexual ecstasy is something she can teach her mate...........so that he can pay attention to his own sexual experience and communicate what brings HIM to an ecstatic state and closer emotionally to her.

That would be my guess...........but is it scriptual?

You can find what you've described in the Song of Solomon.

Enjoy. It's quite lovely.

Song of Solomon 2

1I am a rose[a] of Sharon,
a lily of the valleys.

He

2As a lily among brambles,
so is my love among the young women.

She

3As an apple tree among the trees of the forest,
so is my beloved among the young men.
With great delight I sat in his shadow,
and his fruit was sweet to my taste,
4He brought me to the banqueting house,[b]
and his banner over me was love.
5Sustain me with raisins;
refresh me with apples,
for I am sick with love.
6His left hand is under my head,
and his right hand embraces me!
7I adjure you,[c] O daughters of Jerusalem,
by the gazelles or the does of the field,
that you not stir up or awaken love
until it pleases.

The Bride Adores Her Beloved

8The voice of my beloved!
Behold, he comes,
leaping over the mountains,
bounding over the hills.
9My beloved is like a gazelle
or a young stag.
Behold, there he stands
behind our wall,
gazing through the windows,
looking through the lattice.
10My beloved speaks and says to me:
"Arise, my love, my beautiful one,
and come away,
11for behold, the winter is past;
the rain is over and gone.
12The flowers appear on the earth,
the time of singing[d] has come,
and the voice of the turtledove
is heard in our land.
13The fig tree ripens its figs,
and the vines are in blossom;
they give forth fragrance.
Arise, my love, my beautiful one,
and come away.
14O my dove, in the clefts of the rock,
in the crannies of the cliff,
let me see your face,
let me hear your voice,
for your voice is sweet,
and your face is lovely.
15Catch the foxes[e] for us,
the little foxes
that spoil the vineyards,
for our vineyards are in blossom."

16My beloved is mine, and I am his;
he grazes[f] among the lilies.
17Until the day breathes
and the shadows flee,
turn, my beloved, be like a gazelle
or a young stag on cleft mountains.[g]

I've mentioned this before, but this seems like an appropriate place to bring it up again.

I was told that the moment of orgasm is like an open window to Heaven. The body quivering, skin tingling, euphoric feeling is what 'unconditional love' FEELS like. Sex is not the only time this feeling occurs, it also happens during childbirth, and other times as well. Can you imagine feeling like that all the time?

Physically speaking, the female orgasm does serve some purpose as it causes the cervix to open and close. (rapid succession, causing a slight suction therefore making it easier for the spermies to find there way)

Well, the biological theory is the wonderfully :areyoucra titled Upsuck Hypothesis, i won't go into it.

From a religious perspective - God commanded humanity to reproduce and replenish the Earth, anything that aides that is a good thing.

My mission president described it like this:

Imagine if God had just told Adam and Eve to "Multiply and replenish the Earth." If they were like most of us, we'd say "ok, I'll get on that tomorrow", and put it off indefinatly (he compared it to Home Teaching - for all the LDS out there). Mankind would have been extinct in a few generations.

So, instead he gave them a little motivation to get things going :)

I was taught this at a private Southern Baptist college. :D

It's in an unpublished document written by a Southern Baptist preacher/scholar Nat Tracy. I don't recall the title offhand - since it's unpublished you may not be able to find it readily anyway.

Either way, if we feel like that all the time it's only fair for God to also provide alcohol and cigarettes.

Women can have orgams to make sex pleasurable for them and thus making them more interested in sex. If women where NOT interested in sex we would either die out as a species or rape would be our only way to reproduce. Nighter of those options are preferable.

Males DO have a "clitoris", it's the top of the penis. Women only needs it as a "pleasure button" so they just have smaller version of it. We actually starts out rather androgynos and then develop male or female characteristics, that's why males have nipples for instance.

St. Augustine believed the "forbidden fruit" in Genesis actually referred to 'pleasurable sex', which was of the devil. He theorized God's original intention for sex was "a very cold dutiful mechanical act without passion."

So we might have the devil himself to thank for our clitorises. :)

Niceguy got it right. In a world without ob-gyn clinics, tubal ligations, diaphragms, or decent pain inhibitors during childbirth, what could have possibly induced women to have sex other than the threat of force?

As for the prev. poster my only conclusion would be that St. Augustine is not a female and therefore unqualified to address the subject at all.
:rolleyes:

I second that, but will add that refusing to be open to either is wrong in our eyes.

Didn't I recently read the catholic church was finally coming around to allowing contraception?

the sexual fluids of women, especially those secreted during times of orgasm can be harnessed by the man to balance the yin/yang energies. this energy can be cultivated and used to increase the bioenergy of both parties. look into taoist semen retention if you are interested in more. it is great for health and longevity.
