The Flat Earth Cult Mentality.

Recently I have been getting into the whole Flat Earth debate. Mainly I listen to debates while I play games and what not, but I listened to couple with the youtuber name Jeranism. He is a person who supports the flat earth, but has no actual model to defend and he has went on to say that he doesn't do research, but instead decides what is true by whatever feel rights to him.

So that brings the question does Jeranism look at the evidence in a objective manner? Which to his own admission is not the case. He looks at all the scientific evidence with a confirmation bias that a lot of other flat earthers tend to do. They already have this impossible belief that the Earth is flat so when they go look for evidence they can cherry pick what they need fit into their own world view. I have heard flat earthers deny that gravity exist, that space exist, and the globe was a lie created by NASA.

Sometimes listening to Jeranism talk reminds me of Jim Jones of Jonestown. I wasn't alive when he did his craziness, but I've listen to him in documentaries along with David Koresh of Waco. I'm getting very similar vibes in their speeches and it's kind of scary that people can get caught up in this nonsense. Has anyone else notice this or am I just being paranoid?

I think I prefer an honest idiot to the people I keep bumping up against who "do their own research" and call me a sheep for buying into the idea that the Earth is sphereish.

When the truth is revealed, it will send shock waves around... er... across the Earth.

I really don't think these people are serious. I doubt there is a flattard out there smart enough to invent a completely new system of mathematical equations that would be required to support such a ridiculous concept.

To a certain extent, all people who don't reason well are going to sound nutty. But in fact different groups make different errors and have different predilections. For example, the People's Temple followed a charismatic authoritarian leader who controlled their lives (Jim Jones). Flat Earthers do not share this trait.

The Mufti of the Wahhabis in Saudi Arabia and many of his followers insist that earth is flat..
I am not sure if this is part of the Wahhabi creed..

Well they do have the ice wall as "documented proof" of a flat Earth.

I always wondered why the water didn't just fall over the edge. *Grin*

Apparently according to flat earthers, the ice wall covers the entire circumference of the disc, so no matter what direction you take, you will end up hitting the wall that to this day nobody knows what lies beyond it.

Personally, (heh) I think we live on a Halo ring and on a search for Master Chief. "0]

While I think your point is valid, but I fear that someone just like Jim Jones could easily take advantage of these people.

Don't forget the huge conspiracy of the United Nations supposedly patrolling the ring preventing people from reaching it. Looks like you'll never find Master chief after all.
