This thread is for anything concerning the future...
what do you believe is inevitable? is anything inevitable? What do you want to see happen... what do you not... and how do we get there from here?

Question Everything
"I know not with what weapons WW3 will be fought, but WW4 will be fought with sticks and stones." - Einstein

I see sticks and stones in our future :D

but then Jesus will come again, so it's all good! Every time I see something frustrating, I say, it's ok, just one step closer to the 2nd coming! (which I'm looking forward to)

How about a Super World Ruling Government, with Jesus Christ as its Supreme Ruler, and thousands of Supernatural government officials enforcing The Ten Commandments, which will be the basis for the law of the land. Everyone will own a piece of property, Income tax across the board will be 10% of gross income, all debts will be forgiven every 7 years; Every 50 years, all land sold or leased will revert back to the original family.

Newspapers will be dominated by the following headlines:

"Food Production Sufficient to Feed Entire World"—With Plenty to Spare!, "All Chemical Fertilizers Banned—Soil Begins to Heal from Years of Neglect and Abuse!," Food Now Much More Nutritious—and Tastes Better, Too!"

All Deadly Viruses Eradicated—Including HIV, Ebola, West Nile, Polio and Smallpox!, All Lethal Bacteria Disappear—Including E. coli, Tuberculosis, Cholera, Staphylococcus, Salmonella and Bubonic Plague!”, “No More Fatal Illness—Cancer, Strokes, Heart Disease, Diabetes and Other Killers Now Gone!”, “All Blind, Deaf and Crippled Made Whole in Mass Worldwide Healing!”, “No More Sickness—Millions Report Perfect Health!”, “All Hospitals and Clinics Put Out of Business—Millions of Doctors, Nurses, Staff and Paramedics Find More Useful Vocations!”, “All Pharmaceutical Companies Re-oriented and Re-educated to Wise Use of Herbs and Vitamins!”, “Health ‘Breaks Out’ Everywhere—All Report ‘No Problems’!”

“Divorce Disappears—No More Broken Families!”, “No More Fraudulent Marriages—Prenuptial Agreements No Longer Necessary!”, “All Teenagers Practice Respect and Obedience to Parents and Authority!”, “All Deadbeat Dads Take Responsibility and Find Employment!”, “All Mothers Find Nurturing Children at Home Rewarding!”

“War Outlawed Around the World—All Nations Disarmed!”, “Destructive Weapons Destroyed and Recycled!”, “All Military Personnel Moving into Construction Projects—Rebuilding Bridges and Critical Infrastructure!”, “Many Lands Recover From Civil War—Being Resettled and Farmed Productively!”, “Global Trade Competition Ceases—Nations Cooperate Fully!”

“No More Crime—All Rates Plunge to Zero!”, “Murder—Thing of the Past!”, “Armed Robbery Disappears—So Does Fear!”, “All Thieves Repent—Now Seeking Honest Employment!”, “City Streets Now Safe—Children Play Freely in Once Dangerous Neighborhoods!”

“Education Now Focuses on Right Values—No More ‘Situation Ethics,’ Secular Humanism and ‘No Absolutes’!”, “Bible Taught in All Schools!”, “All Peoples Speak and Learn One Language!”, “Law of ‘Cause and Effect’ Revealed—Explains Why Past Disease, War, Famine, Poverty, Ignorance and Misery!”
“Weather Revolution Brings Stability to World!”, “Today’s Weather—Beautiful Skies and Rain in Due Season Tomorrow!”, “Deserts Blossom Worldwide—Now Favorite Garden Spots!”, “Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Hurricanes and Floods No Longer a Threat!”

All this coming to an earth near you soon!!

I think about 80% of the human population will die off, while the rest will largely be concentrated in the polar regions -- such as Northern Canada or Siberia. That will occur because of global climate change and the resource wars it will cause.

The societies of the future will be ruled by powerful CEOs of corporations, who in some ways will resemble and/or function like the barons of the middle ages.

There might or might not be a facade of democracy, but the real power will be concentrated in the corporate executives/barons.

Most people will be poor but a few who are by comparison super rich will be on top. There will be no middle class.

Sophisticated technology will be used to control the populace. That technology will include nearly universal monitoring of the populace by cameras. No one will escape the attention of the state's surveillance computers.

But the real control will, as ever, be exercised through propaganda. Public relations and advertising agencies will work tirelessly to convince the population that only fools are discontent, and that they are really, despite any appearances to the contrary, free in the deepest meaning of the word free.

There will be endless wars for resources.

People will be very religious, just like the poor in poor countries tend always to be very religious.

I figure something like the above will last thousands of years. But maybe in some eventual future, humanity will once again experience a renaissance and enlightenment. Who knows!

Distant future, extinction. Near future, I'm optimistic. Space exploration-wise maybe a permanent moon colony in about 150 years. Mars colony in about 300 years. Machines with human level intelligence, fusion power, longer lifespans and disease resistance via genetic engineering. We have a potential to turn our civilization into a utopia in the next 500 years. It could be a world where everyone has access to a top notch education and medical care. No homeless, no hunger, no poverty. Its just a matter of whether we'll be able to master our base animal instincts and whether we're willing to restructure our society in a major positive way. Our future is in our hands, not up to some divine mystical being...the sooner we realize that Superman isn't going to swoop in and save us, the better off we'll be. No sense in sitting on the couch every night shaking our fist at the ceiling and complaining about how fat fate made us. We might as well get up and do something about it.

The same thing that has been happening for thousands of years. People will continue to become more tolerant of each other, the influence of religion will continue to fade. Scientific knowledge will continue to expand. Legal systems will continue to become more sophisticate and effective. The general population will become better educated; which will lead to better ran politics. The increased efficiency of the legislation will reel in corrupt corporations, which will create a more balanced economy. Genetically grown food will feed the hungry of the world. Improvements in health-care will increase its quality and availability, which will lengthen human life. Humans will continue to become more environmentally consciousness. And technological advances will help eliminate pollution and human waste, while giving us renewable and cheap energy. Humans will, of course, run out of oil, but this will be a good thing, they'll find a better way to move vehicles.

As long as we accomplish all that before we go extinct! Cool! :areyoucra

If we were able to master our base instincts and future, would we not BE divine mystical beings?

Do something about it? What? Like.... become SUPERMEN??????

....and how many jobs will people lose when we no longer manufacture couches or fattening foods? Before you take away the general public's fat butts and fat-butt receptacles, you might want to give them a reason to evolve!!!!!!!!!

If you really want to understand humanity, then turn off the T.V. and pick up a book.

I imagine a dystopian world: one world government, harsh sentences for minor things, death-penalty happy, censorship, huge unemployment, poverty and many crimes going unreported and/or unpunished as the police will be too busy enforcing offences like protesting, reading forbidden books, and so on.

I imagine we will have the technological abilities to cure diseases, create synthetic food, and possibly even use robots to do important things, but for the most part they will probably not be used.

Religion.. probably not. We may have a cult of personality around someone (maybe "The World Leader"), though, which functions the same way.

I'm an optimist aren't I? :D

We could be powerful and smart but I wouldn't say that we'd be divine or mystical. Mystical implies something beyond nature or physical form and I don't think divinity is an earned quality. I guess it all depends on how you view or define god though.

Do something about it? What? Like.... become SUPERMEN??????

Possibly, but we should be extremely cautious when manipulating genes. Ultimately I think we can achieve many of the goals I mentioned without changing our biological nature.

I didn't mean to imply that we should get rid of couches or fatty foods. I was just using the analogy. Humanity waiting for divine intervention to solve our problems...its like a fat lazy guy on a couch who doesn't try to improve his life because he expects fate to intervene.

Books are wonderful, but are inherently no more accurate than T.V.

*Perhaps a greater percentage of people are more tolerant of others (perhaps, though I don't see it), but the intensity of intolerance today is threatening to drag the world into WWIII. Israeli/Arab, Shia/Sunni, Indian/Pakistani, Russia/everyone who wants independence from Russia, Republican/Democrat, gangs, racial supremacists -the list goes on and on...

*The importance of religion in some peoples' minds may have decreased, but its influence is still very strong -perhaps stronger than ever. Mosque, Jew, Muslim, Shiite, Sunni, Islam, Christian, etc.... -all very influencial words today. Even the anti-religious sentiment is proof of religion's influence. Many think it is the cause of hostility, but it is usually an excuse or justification for it. In the absence of religion, we'd find another way to justify our ways. Only about 16 percent of the world's population is non-religious -though they, as a group, are third in numbers to Christianity and Islam. I theorize that this is, at least in part, due to the two major religions' duking it out for centuries -and people tiring of it.... and religion's poor representation in general giving God a bad name.

*Scientific knowledge expanding =good. Not using it to build more sophisticated weaponry =priceless.

*Legal systems..... sophisticated? Yes. Effective? No. They might become so -but I don't see it as accurate to say they will CONTINUE to become so -which implies.........

It is quite likely that religion, in the conventional sense, will disappear as we answer more and more questions about the universe. It is also quite likely that computing and information technology will continue to march on. This means that the future 30-40 years from now will almost certainly be entirely unrecognizable and unpredictable.

All those religious predictions that say God will descend unto earth and rule it in 100, 200 years time or even later? Too late. I would not be surprised if we have invented post-scarcity economics by 2110, which makes God's intervention rather redundant.

Mucho frubals coming your way for fulfilling prophecy :D

"Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires. 4They will say, “What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again? From before the times of our ancestors, everything has remained the same since the world was first created.”(2 Peter 3:3-4) NLT

I suppose the cycles will continue, with periods of relative prosperity and periods of decline. Countries will come and go, and conflicts will occur.

The stakes constantly increase, with increasing population on the finite planet and more powerful technology and weapons, so eventually the cycles could alter significantly for better or worse.

With the prospects of nanotechnology, increased computing, and genetic engineering, we could eventually reach some sort of cataclysmic failure that results in the extinction of our species, or we could rise above many of the problems the world currently faces.
