The Golden Rule and the Punishment of Crime.

You could carry it further...how could you even fine them or scold them? Who wants that done to them?

I don't think taking a general rule of conduct as an absolute principle works.

If the golden rule is actually valid, then how can you put a criminal in prison or put them to death?
depends on if you view prison as punishment or correctional

Because the criminal broke the golden rule and now he has been devalued to the lead rule.

Right, but if you broke the golden rule would you want to devalued to the lead rule? Doesn't everyone at times, break the golden rule in some facet or another?

If I was a criminal I would want to be corrected. And I would want to be deterred by the fear of punishment. (Maybe not at the time, but if I ever got back to thinking clearly and spiritually.)

Could you clarify precisely which version of the "golden rule" you are talking about? There are several variations, and which one you are referencing is actually kinda important here.

Because if I committed a crime I would want others to impose an appropriate punishment such as imprisonment.Which conforms with the Golden Rule.

One should treat others as they would like others to treat oneself.

Or

One should not treat others as they would not like others to treat oneself.

Either one. But if you have another variant you'd like to use, that's fine.

I would think that a mature sense of personal responsibility would make it a simple affair to condone punishment, especially when this is coupled with social narratives that spin tales of punishment being an effective behavioral reformation tool. Which they aren't, but we tell that story, at any rate.

Never followed the golden rule anyway. Who needs it when you've got a personal code of honor?

I feel that if I was a murderer and killed people, then I should be castrated from society, such action doesn't make a peaceful world, and only destroys the good of that society.
