The Gospel Story Quiz

after 13 wrong in a row, me hads enough ;)
Thing is, there are no correct answers. No matter what you chose the other choice contradicts it. This is the whole purpose of the quiz; to point out the contradictory elements of the Bible.

Which is why fantôme profane could not have gotten any right.

Ya I suspected that.

because I knew the contradictions from verse to verse and just picked one, and im like I know it states each/both in different books, then quit.

Just click on the 20 question quiz

Then tell us how you did.

Good luck. . . . . . . . You'll need it. ;)

I'll start with question number 1. "How many men were in Jesus' tomb when the women arrived?"

Mark 16:5 states:
"And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted."

Luke 24:4 states:
"And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: "

The first thing I notice is that Luke 24:4 makes no statement as to how many men were in Jesus' tomb, while the account from Mark 16:5 states that there was a single young man in Jesus' tomb.

So why is it then that the "Gospel Story Quiz" asserts that "Luke 24:4 states that there were two men dressed in shining garments in the tomb", when indeed it says no such thing?

Just looked at the first question. I got it right ;)

The answer is 2 if you read Luke 24

The answer is 1 if you read Mark 16

The answer is 0 is you read Matthew 28 (the angel sits outside)

The answer is also 0 if you read John 20 (no one inside or outside)

I did not bother after that point.

I did not see your post until I had made mine. A frubal for beating me. And for supplying quotes.

Actually, I shall return the frubal, as my quote I intended as being Luke 24:4 was actually Luke 24:24, so I actually failed.

I was too hasty. And would therefor like to revise my answer.

Luke 24:4 actually states that "And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:"

Now, from the information given, I cannot be certain whether these two men were in the tomb, or outside the tomb. I suppose we could take it for granted that they were still inside the tomb. But it is not clear from this verse, nor the verses surrounding it. The words "and it came to pass" imply some length of time had passed. Were they still in the tomb, when they saw these two men? I just don't know.

Mark 16:5 states, "And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted."

Here again, the scripture is unclear where this young man was when the women entered into the tomb of Jesus. Was he just outside the tomb on the right side of the tomb as they entered in? Or was he inside the tomb. It is not clear from the verses we read.

In Mathew's account, "a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it." (Mathew 28:2)

Is this the same man that was sitting on the right side of the tomb? I don't know.

In the Gospel of John, we see that Mary saw two angels sitting inside the tomb. It could very well be that all accounts are true, and we just don't know exactly what happened because we weren't there to witness the order of events.

I knew something was fishy when it said my answer for Judas hanging himself was wrong...I knew that one from Jesus Christ Superstar.

LoL, remembering to add "According to" between 'The Gospel' and the writer's name the point I gather.

In the Douay-Rheims Bible we used way back when in Catholic School, it was "The Gospel According to Saint" whoever. :)

Exactly, and I find that language a wholly more accurate introduction to the reading.
Sure... There are 'contridictions' but I read that as we all experience Jesus in a different way,
And that's OK. Its othering another's experience and forming doctrines that spoils the party.

Not to say there are important things that can be shared and talked about,
But, nitpicking and saying its all crap because one guy saw this and one guy saw that... Meh.
That's not for me.

I suspected that was the case. However I am not quite so convinced that there are contradictions simply because someone says so.
