The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies *SPOILERS ALLOWED*

Here be spoilers, ye be warned. BE WARNED.

So, the final chapter of the Hobbit trilogy and quite possibly the final Peter Jackson Middle-earth film has come out, been out for a couple weeks now.

So, for those who have seen it, what did y'all think?

I enjoyed it myself, growing up with the Lord of the Rings films I was always going to though. :p

Great action throughout. Was slightly disappointed that Smaug was dealt with in the first ten minutes before the title had even come up on the screen, though it was still pretty epic.

Jackson has also caught the George Lucas disease it seems and gone very heavy with CGI for the prequels, even more so in this final film of the trilogy. The gritty realism of LOTR was lost in this trilogy, which is sad but it was still very much enjoyable.

Honestly, despite all of Christopher Tolkien's complaints, I hope one day they do get the rights to the other books and Peter Jackson can continue making films in Middle-earth (He said he would if they got them). I honestly can't imagine anyone else doing a better job, I know it embellishes the books a lot with the new Hobbit trilogy but I DON'T WANT IT TO END. :D

Enjoyable action packed roller coaster ride....but not something I'd need to watch a 2nd time.
- Not much of a plot.
- The ridiculous Lakeland guy pretending to be an old woman.
- Legolas running on top of falling stones......no that was too over the top.

Eh. I've seen all the LOTR movies. I find the whole universe to be terribly uninteresting, inconsistent, and uninspiring. It always seems that none of the individual characters really have much to them at all. Seems like story lines are made and resolved without much story actually happening between. I liked Tauriel's lines, but even the subject love is essentially skimmed over.

I am a big fan of Lord of the Rings et all and have seen the entire series including the latest Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies (which I think you know), I gave four stars in the "What was last movie you watched?" thread.

My favorite of the series is the Two Towers, it really inspires the adventure in me and of course the battle which goes to the bitter end until "my side" wins. Now the latest almost was one continous battle, but like I said in my review it was sort of difficult to even take a side at all at first, but in the end all the bickering between the good guys ended when they rally together to take down the dumb *** goondas of evil.

I own all the other DVDs in this series so yes I will purchase the latest as well. Not as good as the Two Towers but very entertaining and still has that classic LOTR way of getting your "gripping attention" throughout.

I just wish there would be one more next Christmas, but sadly it won't be apparently. One thing that is odd about my liking for these films is, for some unknown reason I always make a lot of money in the stock market after watching the movie. It just gives me that "boost of energy" I guess to strike bold and sure. I saw it in IMAX 3D so it should give me even better "luck" than normal. Definetly it has that vavoom in IMAX.

One thing is, I never read the books. But I am really a fan of adventure of this genre, so probably I will read the books when I retire which isn't far off.

You know, sometimes I go to those Renaissance Faire events, I wonder if other fans of TLOR series also like these Faires? I love them.

It was very well done for what it was. An action movie with some necessary liberties from the source material.

It does somewhat lampshade the inhuman quality of the Middle Earth books, particularly in these times of Game of Thrones evidence.

But it was very enjoyable - in no small part because of the changes.

The only true weak part for me was the bowmanship prodigy - which, again, was even less convincing in the book. Even taking for granted that such a harpoon could be catapulted with enough strength to do the deed, the boy would have lost a good chunk of his neck and died a terrible death.

Really? I notice that in all the movies, warfare and battle is portrayed so light and bloodless as to be utterly meaningless.

If LOTR even attempted to depict what true war looks like, most of the audience would leave with PTSD.

Fair point, but this movie makes a point of spotlightning the harpoon and the way it is launched. It becomes difficult to suspect disbelief.

As far as the Hobbit films are concerned, Battle of the Five Armies is probably the best of the 3. Still, out of all 6 in the series, the best has to go to The Two Towers.
