The Incredible Hulk

Magic Man

I liked it. I thought it was a lot better then the first one. I can't say I loved it, as it didn't blow me away. I think that I knew what was coming going into it, but they did a good job with it, and all of the actors were fabulous. We got to see enough of the Hulk. Also, I'm not always a big fan of Liv Tyler, but she was a great Betty Ross, and the chemistry between her and Ed Norton was just right. The fight scene at the end was great. They didn't chicken out, and gave a good brawl between Abomination and Hulk. They didn't go the usual route of having an explosion end it or something stupid like that. They actually fought until one of them won. It also had some wonderful tidbits like a brief playing of the musical theme from the TV show, and Samuel Sterns (AKA the Leader), a cameo by Tony Stark, and a fantastic cameo by Lou Ferrigno.

I give it a B+.

Anyone else seen it yet? What did you think?

I thought it was better than expected as well. My girlfriend was not too thrilled about going as is usually the case when I get to pick out the movie. However, after the movie she said she was pleasantly surprised and thought it was good. I didn't know that the bad guy was called Abomination. Is that from the comics or did I just miss that little tidbit during the movie? I'll agree with you though....B+ is about what I'd give it in my book. Definitely better than the first one. Having Tony Stark at the end there was pretty cool and unexpected. How sweet would a movie about The Hulk vs. Iron Man be? I know they are both good guys but I'd still pull for Hulk.

I wouldn't count out a fight between the two of them. It has happened many times in the comics. Tim Roth's character Emil Blonsky's other name is Abomination in the comics. When Samuel Sterns, the scientist who helps Banner and then makes Emil Blonsky fully turn, talks about what might happen to Blonsky, he says the combination of the chemicals could turn him into an...abomination.

The plan is for another Iron Man movie, a Thor movie, a Captain America movie and then an Avengers movie, which would be all of them along with Ant Man, and maybe another character or two. That's why at the end of the credits in Iron Man Nick Fury comes to Stark and mentions starting the Avengers, and then Stark shows up to talk to Gen. Ross in this one. It's beautiful!

I saw it opening day. Despite the loud children that were sitting next to me, I thought it was very good. I loved the way they portrayed the Hulk's mannerisms (seemed similiar to King Kong) and I loved all the cameos: Lou Ferregno (probably spelled that wrong), Stan Lee of course (I thought this was one of his better cameos), and the nods to The Leader and Doc Samson.

There are a couple of nit-picky things that didn't satisfy me completely though. First off, Ang Lee's Hulk appeared to be stronger than this one. I thoought this was especially true in the final showdown. I didn't think they destroyed enough. :D Speaking of the final showdown, The Abomination differed quite a bit from his comic book counter part. Comics: He was Russian, Movie; He was born in Russia and raised in England (I don't know why they just didn't have the actor who played him portray a Russian, seeing as the same actor play a KGB agent in Hitman and could totally pass for a Russian). Also; Comics: Reptilian looking, Movies: Huge, bony guy.

I agree with Matt's rating: B+. Very good comic book flick, but not quite as good as Iron Man.

I think they did that with Blonsky because making his character part of the British armed forces worked better for their story. I think the abomination looked close enough to the comics, with a little different twist. I think all in all, the character was very close to the comics, and only differed in ways that worked better for the movie, and didn't take away so much from the comic book accuracy.

I think that we're in for more Hulk movies.... it barely touched on the tragic nature of the comics... the loneliness of the Hulk...

I'm not a big Hulk fan, but I am a big sexy Edward Norton fan, so I think I need to see this one.

mrscardero and I are going to see it this Saturday night. From what I read in the reviews it seems to be loosely based on Bruce Jones' run in a recent volume of the Hulk comic series. In that series the Hulk was a fugitive that was in touch with a mysterious character code named Mr. Blue. Other aspects had Bruce Banner trying to get control of his rage and it also had a climatic Abomination confrontation at the end of the story. This would be a smart move on Hollywood's part because that series was well received by fans and readers.

Oh yeah! I remember that arc. I think it was called "Clandestine", wasn't it? I would say if this is based on it, it is veeeeery loosely based. It has some things in common, but the story is still very different. The points you mention, though, are similarities, but even they are done differently.

Anyway, I would love to hear what you guys think of it. :)

Better than the first film, I enjoyed the CGI effects and the climatic fight at the end but I preferred the pacing and plot of the first act and thought it ran out of steam at the end.

I like Tim Nelson as an actor but as the role of "Mr. Blue", he was annoying.

Liv Tyler was a wet blanket throughout the film. For those who get the chance to watch it again, take notice of Liv’s upper lip as it out-performs her.

I missed Sam Elliott over William Hurt’s performance of General Ross.

I didn’t’ appreciate the color of the Hulk (I dare anyone to find that color in nature). A nice blend somewhere between the two movies would have been practical. Gray would have been an even more novel idea.

How could forget Tony Starks cameo! I thought was awesome too.
I think that they should have tagged that at the very end of the movie. Then I could have had something to taunt all the audience members who were walking out before the credits rolled.

Thanks for the input. I agree about Tim Nelson, but disagree about Liv Tyler and WIlliam Hurt. I liked both of their performances, and I didn't miss Sam Elliott for a minute. But, to each his own. :)

I suspect Liv was employed between two movies at the time (The Strangers and The Incredible Hulk) and may not have been able to devote herself to the character of Betty Ross. She may have also not been interested or felt it was necessary to research her role but her performance definately had a "phoned-in" feeling.
