The ingenuity of the IDF

To borrow the title from Ynet's article on the story:

"The Night That The World Thought Israel Invaded Gaza" - that's exactly how Israel managed to fool Hamas (Ym"Sh). In the middle of last night (Israel time), the IDF Spokesman sent out a message to Israeli media outlets that Israel had begun sending in land forces into the Gaza Strip (until now it was only sending bombing planes) and that more information will be given later. This tidbit spread across the world. It was assumed that tanks and artillery howitzers had entered the Strip, although Israel still didn't describe the situation as a mass-scale invasion.

Today it had been revealed that this had all been a ruse. IDF ground forces had converged on the northern Gaza border but hadn't actually entered. This, coupled with the IDF Spokesman's message, had been enough to convince Hamas that Israel was actually beginning an invasion, which sent several of their terrorists scurrying into their mass underground network of tunnels, nicknamed "the metro" by the IDF. At that point, 160 Israeli airplanes bombed the tunnel system with 450 bombs, pretty much decimating miles upon miles of tunnels, including whichever terrorists were inside.

"מי יתן מציון ישועת ישראל בשוב ה' שבות עמו יגל יעקב ישמח ישראל" - "O that the deliverance of Israel might come from Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of His people, Jacob will exult, Israel will rejoice." (Tehillim 14:7)

I read about this earlier this morning. Interesting strategy. The problem is, it might have worked, which would only prove how horrible Israel is, killling those poor, defenseless people hiding underground.

I saw on the news that international reporters and news agencies are angry that they were used by Israel to deal a blow to Hamas. As though that now they are no longer neutral or something...*

* Or for assisting the evil apartheid regime against their will...**

**But really it's something of an embarrassment.
