The Interview with God

This is the reason you believe in God? How?
That was so new age!

Do I really have to explain why.... I would have thought it was obvious! Im not saying its my only reason. I am saying it is one of the things I look to, to remind myself of God's beauty.

Its tranquil, peaceful, loving, wonderful, breathtaking, out of this world, relaxing, soothing.

I find it interesting how a being that is said to know everything about everything even before creating everything is surprised.

Evil incarnate!
It was kinda nice. I agree with mestemia about the surprise issue, but I suppose if someone actually did pose that question to Allah He would humor them by answering it, rather than pointing to the obvious condition that He is never surprised. In the same way I guess that He asks His creation questions. Not for lack of knowledge but out of the ettiquetes of conversation that we like to observe. In His infinite wisdom Allah knows that constantly dictating to people what they're thinking when they are trying to have conversation with Him, is not a good way to build a relationship with us.

Anyway that video made me think of some hadith I would like to share with you all if you don't mind.

1) On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said:

Whosoever shows enmity to someone devoted to Me, I shall be at war with him. My servant draws not near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him, and My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him. When I love him I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks. Were he to ask [something] of Me, I would surely give it to him, and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it. I do not hesitate about anything as much as I hesitate about [seizing] the soul of My faithful servant: he hates death and I hate hurting him. It was related by al-Bukhari.

2)On the authority of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say: Allah the Almighty said:

O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great at it. It was related by at-Tirmidhi (also by Ahmad ibn Hanbal). Its chain of authorities is sound.

It was just like all those movies we've all seen that are unbelievable and then at the end the main character says, "Oh, it was all a dream" except in this case, the character says it right from the start, so one can know it's all fantasy from the onset.

Now, if it started with "I actually had an interview with God" then I'd pay more attention. Yeah, now go on and tell me that that is how God wanted them to talk to Him, in the dream.

Tell me what you thought the point was?

You just seemed to have missed the wonderous beauty in it, the passion, love, caring, kindness, softness. Spectacular scenery and peacefulness - everything that I believe God to mean. But even for athiests, you cant look past the magnificant scenery and wonder! Its breathtaking!

No, I didn't miss anything. I saw it all and have seen such things many many times before, but just because someone writes bunch of emotion stirring words to such a slide show doesn't mean God exists.

One could've just as easily made a slide show of a great flood destroying all living things, of a plague killing men women and children or of an earth opening up and swallowing thousands of people and suggested the same God exists.

I don't think the purpose of the slideshow was to prove God's existence. It seems that God was used as more of a character that could be utilized to "look in" on humanity and make some observations.

The emotional words and phrases were very artistically combined with wondrous landscapes that emphasized how our mundane perspective on life is surrounded by awesomeness.
