Winning by welcoming you to the club !!!
But I still gotta figure out how to not pay far more in taxes than I get in SS bennies.
I gotta figure out taxes in regards to doing self employment/independent contracting while I wait for the disabilities thing, and then how being on disabilities effects taxes.
Definitely going to a real person next year for all this.

Accounting for contract work is easy.
Keep track of expenses & income.
But if you're new to it, I recommend getting someone to set up a system for you.
You could certainly figure it out all yourself though.

The main newness of it for me is that I'm in California. Indiana if you don't make much (and I certainly didn't delivering newspapers) from a source you may not even have to claim it on your taxes. I know to save every receipt for pretty much just about everything, but the real question is will it be enough from gouging me heavily in taxes here? Will applying for/getting disabilities/ssi make a difference?

You'll find out.

winning by having just filed our taxes for the year. Yes, we pay an accountant to handle everything, but the savings in headaches and hours of labor is more than worth it. And he's actually much, much, much less costly than H&R Block, etc.

From that perspective I win every day since I have plans for every day for the next, oh, 20 years. I'll reevaluate my plans when I'm 93.
