The Mac vs. The PC

You can take the girl out of the trailer park, but I guess you can't take the trailer park out of the girl. *smile*

That little "*smile*" bunk at the end of your insult doesn't hide the insult very well. Nice to know that when you lose an argument you resort to insults. Shows a lot of maturity on your part. :sarcastic

What pretentious analogies.

Well, if one wants to resort to comparing Macs and PCs to sports cars and pick-up trucks...I can work with that. And obviously win too considering all he had to fight back with was basically calling me trailer park trash.

No contest, the PC is far more user serviceable and upgradeable than the Mac, anything a Mac can do I could (with the right money) build a PC which would do it better.

Use the right tool for the job:

Internet? Use Linux!
Graphic Design? Use Mac!
Solitaire? Use Windows!

PCs are way stable IF you use a stable operating system. I have seven servers running CentOs 5, six laptops and three desk tops running on XP, and of course this laptop which uses Ubuntu!

I've had a Dell laptop for about 2 years now, last week I changed the processor to a shiny new dual core thingy. That's the thing I love about PCs. I have stayed with XP and to be honest I never understand why people have problems with it. It's worked for me with no crashes for 2 years on this machine, and I do a LOT of multitasking. My brother is a graphic designer and used a Mac for a week before it decided to shut itself down as he was in the middle of some VERY important work. After much swearing he went back to PCs. =P

PC by far it has many more applications and software available, cheap reliable easy to repair (not that most PC's require repair) PC is used internationally and almost all of the business and operational computers in the world are PC. Mac on the other hand is expensive and from what I have seen form my friends that have Mac's they are always having problems and having to take them to the shop (we only have one in my city and they generally have to send it to Bangkok). There is limited software available at a reasonable price for Mac and they are not compatible with anything not to mention you can't up grade them or salvage harvest any major parts from an old one. All of that being said Mac does have superior graphics and is a better tool for design programs and movie editing.

If gaming on Linux was the same as on Windows, I would never look back.

Right, so if you're a hillbilly grease-monkey kinda guy who enjoys spending hours and hours tinkering with old junk pick-up trucks and turning them into race cars, the PCs are definitely for you. But if you want a machine that works fast and smooth right from the show room, spend a little extra money and buy the Porsch.

Eventually it just comes down to purpose. I have some friends who are designer, most of them have a mac. Myself, I am a builder and gamer, so I'll need a PC.

BTW, for the refference, this is my case at home:
I like cases to be big and looking powerfull and my favourite color is green. In my housesettings where most things have that colorsetting this one looks great. I can understand if you like the white "clean" of mac though :)

So in our comparisons it comes down to:

:D
But then, these are only looks. If you want to compare mac vs PC, it's nicer to compare OSX with Windows.

This is my iMac - it's a thing of beauty, and it runs like a champ. It never hangs up or catches viruses. Fast and smooth every time.

And mine even has a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Or, playing with the analogy in another way: if you want something pretty to drive around the track on weekends or show off to your friends, buy the Porsche. If you want something to actually do work, get the pickup. ;)

Porsche 911s are famous for being difficult to control and for swapping ends in a heartbeat if their drivers don't pay very close attention or don't know what they're doing when they put the pedal down coming out of a turn. I wonder how that quirk works into the analogy. :)

Like I said earlier...

Whenever I listen to people talk about how their Macs don't get viruses, all I hear is "my computer has become so marginalized that even the hackers don't care about it." :D

What if you want both gaming and multimedia though. For instance I want to be able to play games on my computer but also make music videos and other stuff that I can pop up on youtube.

One thing I do like about the PC is that even though it might break more often than the Mac, there is no problem that you can't fix (as long as it isn't a hardware problem). The BSOD really isn't that scary it is just a bit annoying and is very easy to avoid so I don't understand why it is so often mentioned in this debate.
