The Mac vs. The PC

In your opinion which do you think is the better computer, the mac or the PC, and why do you feel this way?

Macs are by far the better computer. However, given the way Apple has been treating their customers over the last few years, I'm not sure it's worth it to spend three times as much on a computer that Apple will not stand behind unless you pay them EVEN MORE money.

Realistically speaking, the main groups of people that the MACS are good for are those who work a lot with graphics (photos & videos), or those who are not too computer savvy.

PC is literally the flagship for most platforms including programming languages, software, coding, gaming, and many other uses for regular fields.

If by better one would judge the number of applications or versitility, then PCS are the winner.

If by better one judges ease of use or use friendliness, MACS are the winner.

Whenever I listen to people talk about how their Macs don't get viruses, all I hear is "my computer has become so marginalized that even the hackers don't care about it." :D

What? No poll!

Macs all the way.

They have always been superior.

I had to give up Macs for a while when it was difficult to impossible to exchange information with PC users (Thanks to Gill Beast...uh...Bill Gates for that), but my next laptop will surely be a Mac.

Unfortunately, our next computer will probably be my daughter's. This PC is relatively new and will not wear out soon enough for my tastes.

Though perhaps I could contrive to drop it from a great height?? :p

Once you get a Mac, you don't go back.

I'm part of the graphic design group that loves the functionality of dragging windows around, but the Mac is just generally a better machine:

- More reliable
- Safer
- Better layout
- Bigger screens for less
- Less noise
- Speed (machine boots up quicker than anything I got on Windows)

The main problems
- Not as customizable (for basic users)
- Pricey (though bang for the buck)

I've used Linux. I must say it kicks quiet a lot of ***.

For those that aren't so program savvy, they also have graphical version of LINUX.

Macintosh makes sure to put only a select amount of hardware in their computer. Therefor The computer gets a lot more stable. Everything is compatible the amount of flaws is reduced. Drivers are easilly made, less virusses are written for the thing.

Therefor I'll make a big vote for the PC. I love customisation. I like to put all kinds of harddisks in my computer without having to see if my mac supports it. I love companies fighting eachother to be in my computer, instead of apple offering me high priced materials. I like to put a videocard in my computer so big, no apple casing can hold it!

Once you get a Mac, you don't go back.
Wrong

I by far prefer PC. I absolutely hate the Mac layout, and I hate the way it looks and I hate how it works.

- Speed (machine boots up quicker than anything I got on Windows)
That doesn't pose much of a problem for me. Turn on computer, make breakfast, by the time I come back it's good to go =D

That and gaming is much better on a PC than a mac.

Try right and left clicking with a one-button mouse ;)...

Nevermind that I have a 7-button mouse LOL

Pssst, don't tell, but that's oldscool. The mighty mouse is also equipped with several buttons..

I know someone who very recently bought a mac (he's a photographer. I still told him he was an arsemonkey though) and he only has the one button. maybe it's an older mouse...

PC all the way for me. Mac does have its advantages, but they are few and far in between. If you are heavily into video editing or simply do not want to approach the slightly higher learning curve of a PC (however the learning curve excuse is now only viable for older generations. Younger generations are raised with computers either at home, school, or both) then Macs might be your choice. But Macs are also heavily outweighed by their disadvantages. Ridiculously high prices for the performance and features you get. A perfect example is the Macbook Air. Three thousand dollars for a laptop with no CD drive, no ethernet port, memory and a hard drive that you can not upgrade. If they charged around ~800 that thing would be awesome. Oh and for those who do not know,
PC != Windows
I like to have versitility, options, and custimizablility. Ive never heard of someone building a Mac from some spare computer parts they had lying around the house. I also like being able to turn my ancient laptop into a superfast machine (Ubuntu 8.04) capable of doing things Mac and Windows can only dream of. Such as

Mac can have its uses, but you can simply do more with a PC for less.

PC

just dont buy crappy ones

Mac is PC hardware +proprietary software + cheaply made (though pretty) proprietary cases/mobo's

you pay way more, you get diminished compatibility, the file system is weird, upgrades cost alot, and you get an aesthetically pleasing machine....spend the same amount on a pc that you spend on a mac and you get HUGE performance and aesthetics!

Contradicting yourself a bit here huh? First it's only windows and then, poof, it can also be linux :D
